I think the monthly cost of £1300 calculated above illustrates the folly of buying a new car and keeping it for only two years, thus suffering the very worst of the depreciation.

MF I agree to a certain extent but generally finance of a vehicle is only worth it just for the warranty in circumstances where a person or family only have the one vehicle and need that security of reliability in such circumstances, and for business's as well. Don't get me wrong new cars still fail but generally at a much lesser rate than older used ones.
