United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Zermatt Silver
2012 Supercharged with 68,000 miles

Looking at a possible purchase. Is 68,000 miles too much for a 2012 Supercharged? Anything I should watch out for or ask the dealer to do before I do the deal? 2012 5.0L S/C

i've had my eye on that one for a while now...its very nice and if you do fairly low miles it wont be long before it gets to 'average' mileage... ... - .- -.

Just because it's a 2012 car don't forget to look for corrosion around the bottom corners of the upper tailgate window glass. Likewise, the rear wheel arch lips/under the rubbers and also on the closing edge of the upper tailgate for blistering/corrosion.

I've been shown a 2012 L322 today and it has corrosion around the bottom corners of the upper tailgate window glass (it would be fixed under the corrosion warranty but check to ensure that on each of the annual services, that the corrosion inspection has been done and endorsed in the service booklet or a corrosion claim could be rejected).

Timing chain rattle noise too is something to be alert to.

There will be other buyer bewares from learned members of course and there's a buyers guide on the Wiki too.

Thumbs Up

Stan - might be best to pm me if you don't mind. Ta.

pld - thanks for the tips. The upper tailgate window corner seals are lifting and they are scheduled to be fixed. I did check wheel arches and couldn't see anything but will check corrosion checks have been done. I did go through the wiki buying guide - extremely comprehensive!
There is a slight timing change rattle at start up - again I have asked them to look at that.
Thanks for tips Thumbs Up 2012 5.0L S/C

Hope you get what you're after.

I thought I heard tell that well versed forum member RRUK had a timing chain rattle on his 5.0SC that got sorted. I found this from one of his posts (extract):
"... Car was at the Dealership for a couple of days... seems there is a fix to the tappety noise, it's to do with the timing chains and tensioners.

The engine is not at risk and 95% of owners would not notice or care, but as I'm very particular and want to make use of the warranty I will have the work done.

It relates to this LTB: LTB00474 - 5.0L AJ133 Primary Chain System Engine Noise

It is a 15 hour job... "

Hopefully you can specify your exact requirements to any seller to ensure that all is in order by the time you complete any purchase Thumbs Up

you need to look out for supercharger rattle as there is a bulletin for the rattle so it may be supercharger, either way its a 3 day job and needs LR sign off if the rattle doesnt go then it may mean supercharger on way out. But that has got to be quite a rattle, i had service bulletin on mine at 70k and new supercharger at 74k LR were brilliant and all done under warranty without quibble. i have had nothing but excellent service from LR but on my 8th RRFF all Supercharged AB's so i have spent a few quid.

Well I pulled the pin and traded in my 2007 TDV8 for the 2012 5.0L Supercharged.

Got the service, MOT, Two year warranty etc... They also put on deployable side steps; all tailgate struts and top tailgate window seals. I also got them to change the Supercharger oil and put a new AGM battery in. It got a new windscreen, privacy glass and a Sat Nav update. The only thing that didn't get done is a slight rattle when cold which could be timing chain but don't notice if from inside. I'll keep an eye on that. Couldn't think of anything else to ask them to do.... They also threw in boot side netting and a posh umbrella on the sunniest day this year - they must have been really keen to get rid of me!

So a new era begins of petrol driving. Last time was in Dubai with the 4.4HSE and I have to say I am enjoying the smoothness and instant pick up again. Adaptaptive Cruise Control is magical and scary at the same time. Going round corners is definitely a big improvement. Let's hope reliability holds up. I've got two years to get it all sorted under the warranty.

Thanks for the advice, as ever Thumbs Up 2012 5.0L S/C

Worth noting that this Corrosion is chemical reaction and not rust and I have seen it only nearly ALL 2012+ cars I have stocked. LR should sort really as its a design fault but its a very easy fix to cut off the bottom 4 inches that corrode or replace the strips.
