arnotts suspension modification

although the eas is a great feature sadly its let me down twice off road and i have decided to go for coils as i have had on every other p38 i have owned ,
I will give an honest opinion once its fitted of how it compares .
Please dont shoot me down.

I heard (millionth hand) that the ride afterwards is horrid and it is not recommended.

To be honest, the EAS failing on the L322 is quite rare. Using the Delphi bags is probably the way to go.

I would seriously reconsider this and make sure the compressor and bags are in good shape. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

heres a first hand view
car sits dead square and is 1/2 " higher all round ,feels sure on the road and so far having driven home from the garage i think its actually a smoother ride , going to get it aligned then its time for some slightly faster driving and i can see what its like , for me knowing the springs are under the car has taken away the worry of them failing when i am out shooting with my son . . he s young so i need to know we are going to get home.
i am in leicester if any members fancy trying the car or would like to know who carried the work out just shout .
Overall happy so far.

Can't see why you would worry about bags breaking, yes they are service items like coil springs but OEM last for at least 8 years and it takes 5 mins to check them to see if they are perished and likely to fail soon, they have a 50,000lb bursting strength so are well strong enough

If you off road your FF then you should make sure it is thoroughly checked over before you go off road (and this applies to any off roader) and weak and suspect items should be repaired or replaced...

I suppose it gives you peace of mind and you don't have to bother too much with springs but you seem to be removing the best part of the FF and going backwards....

Mine has been heavily used off road for over a year and never failed yet, it's 13 years old now but does get checked over before going out.... Personally I wouldn't dream of springs, having one, set height would be appalling and absolutely useless if you do proper off roading.

Stan, as far as I know it's about 850euros... buy a complete set of bags for that...!!! Pete

I have had an air strut fail, but on the dealer's lift rather than in an off road situation ( I think the wheels rather hang off the suspension then, which puts strain on the air bags). My personal experience of air struts off road on 322s (farm tracks and fields/moors, including towing, car up to 9 years old) has been fine, though I have read about 405 air suspension failing on a difficult ground on a comparative road test in Australia.
I was happy enough with the ride of my coil sprung Classics, but like Haylands would be sorry to lose the ability to raise and lower the car with the air struts, useful not just on rutted or stony ground off road but also in giving a more stable and economical ride at higher speeds on road. I suspect that the inability to have a lower ride height at higher speeds will be a safety matter so that it would have to be notified to insurers. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Well you'd have to notify your insurers regardless, being a modification from standard.

Probably wouldn't be a big issue with one of the specialist brokers, they'll just treat it like a boy racer with lowering springs. They'll want an engineers report (just a statement from who ever fits the springs that it's safe) and they'll want to know who fitted them if it's not done by a garage they might ask for an independent inspection.

The only problem you might run into is some of the mainstream insurers don't like dealing with modified cars, it's too much hassle for them.

sorry about how it read ,its an l322 ,i have done my p38s before.
i have notified my insurers and went for a heavy duty option via arnotts ... so far no complaints,its by personal choice and although its not used for heavy off road i think there is a design error because on extended hieght the bags are exposed and when its lowered to normal height it leaves mud trapped on the inside of the bag thats against the shocker .
If anyone wishes to try or needs someone to fit it i ll gladly help but please dont be so harsh that i took this choice i dont have time to prepare for going off the beaten track and often dont know till i get to a shoot , our range rover does what its designed to do get us most places in comfort but i think my mod guarantees i get back without bags failing,having once had a suspension failure quite a distance from home i dont fancy it again.
