Westfalia removable tow bar

Hi folks picked up my Range Rover 4.4tdv8 yesterday and tried to fit e tow bar but it would not lock in to position and there
Seems to be the lock missing even though the two keys are there as you can see from photo the wheel part of the tow bar sticks out about 10 mm and does not seem to lock back to the correct position
My questions are this
As it is still under manufactures warranty (62 plate) and the tow bar has been fitted by Land Rover do you think they will
Fix this ??
Also it may seem a daft question to some out there
how do I remove the section of bumper to get to the electrics to see if it's a 13 pin as I toe a tin tent Tia

Can't comment on the lock but I don't understand your question about the electrics. If they are fitted the socket should be apparent attached to the armature next to the tow hook point. In which case all you should need to do is lift the lid and count the number of pins? John

I believe the manufacturers warranty covers all approved accessories that were fitted when the car was supplied new. So yes, they should cover the tow bar - If not, you can buy the removable section from PF Jones, but more cheaply than Land-Rover, Less than Half the price!

I have an earlier model, but i would imagine that panel just pops out with a screw driver or ideally a plastic lever, but i'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong.

Had a look the sockets are there but they are up behind the bumper there is a ab body kit on it from the factory and it covers the pins I'll try adding more photos

Understood. You say sockets. If you have two then they are 12N and 12S not 13 pin but you can get an adapter to use them as 13 pin.eg http://sargentshop.co.uk/13-Pin-Socket-Adaptor . This might help http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/1022790/towbar-wiring-mo.pdf John

Andrew, you have the same OE bodykit as mine... There are 4 turn clips under the centre panel, (mine is painted black, see pic bellow. Yours will be matte grey if factory standard) turn them 90 degrees and they should drop out by about an inch. Then just pull the lower section off sir Thumbs Up

Ok put the car into the dealer to get it checked over they are saying it is not been fitted by them but I think it has been as I was told that it is a factory original car with out any additions I've taken a few pictures of booklets that were in the log book and they all look if it is a LR part how can I check if it was done by them

Also I don't seem to have the owners manual in the booklet was this in a disc or booklet style for this car or a book type copy
Where can I get one Tia

The lock portion has dropped out of the centre of the armature - exactly the same happend to mine. Its a very costly part that you see on ebay for about 200 quid. I was told that you can buy a replacement lock mechanism for about 25 quid but I couldn't source one.

I went for a farmers type hitch in the end for about 60 quid. Its great as you can take it off and out the way when not being used.

When you consider LR charge around £500 for the same part it's cheap. Laughing

If you aren't the first owner then i would contact the first owner and ask. If it was fitted when the car was new, either at the factory or as a dealer fit option, then it should have been recorded on the vehicle record on Topix, but i dare say many dealers don't bother to enter the options they've fitted. If the first owner is able to confirm it though, you should be able to claim.

just a note that when you picture it in its doesn't see properly locked in.

The wheel at the side should snap in and be flush with the bar, you shouldn't see any of the shiny bit adjacent to the knob.....

would not use in that condition. definitely not properly locked in IMHO. to my eyes it looks like its been little used there is lots of paint on it (needs sanding off before you use with a caravan hitch). it looks like its been Put in and left in, the lock has seized and has been removed. push the little lever on the back and see if the mechanism engages properly. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
