ps2 in boot and tv query/ reversing camera

Hi,

I have a 2002 td6 vogue.

If I look in the boot on the left there is a ps2, which is wired in.
No idea how it works with my car so just leaving it alone. But on the dash when I try "television" my car wont scan any channels, is this because of the digital switch over or the ps2?

Looking to fit a reversing camera also, for reversing onto a trailer.
How hard a job is it?

Thanks

Also half my trailer lights don't work, work fine with other cars so its defiantly this cars fault. Traced the wiring up to this black box in the first picture, not sure whats meant to happen but I have no reverse, brake or indicator lights?

Also what is this in my center arm rest? Some weird hole that looks like its melted inside and a rocker switch?

* TV is likely to be because of the digital switch over yes, unless someone has replaced the TV module with a later one it wont be digital - can be done by using a Digital hybrid module from a later BMW.

*PS2 i don't know, i would imagine it just uses the TV feed to the screen.

*The trailer electrics are a complete bodge of a job using a generic bypass relay. It could be the relay box that's your problem or it could be all those chocolote block connectors with damp in them and or a poor connection. If it was me i'd rip all of that out and make good all the spliced wiring with heat shrink "duraseal" connectors. Then replace the tow bar wiring with this;
http://www.pfjones.co.uk/land-rover-range-...506rc.html
There are cheaper ones if you only want 7 pin, but the 13 pin connector is a much better socket. This kit will just plug in assuming someone hasn't cut the plug off, it will also once you tell the car it's there give you bulb failure warning for the trailer as well as activate trailer stability program and change the way the car changes gear etc.

*The switch in the centre console is possibly something to do with the PS2, it might switch between TV and PS2, however it could be for anything, a crude immobiliser for example.

Depends how the PS2 was wired in - and that's an old one - it was much easier with the slim model & external power supply.

You may get lucky with the reversing camera (or not) - depends on how it was connected - some adapters came with a reverse camera input & others didn't - or it might be directly spliced in.

I'd follow the video output of the PE2 and see if it ends up at a connector or is spliced in - if it's a connector there may be others there.

Depends how what was connected? The ps2?

Is there a factory retro fit of a reversing camera? So that it just comes on when reversing?

The ps2 could use the aux channel on the TV unit and feed into the bm54 for sound. Have you gone into the TV setting and looked for aux on the channel list ?

Do you have screens in the rear headrests ?

As mentioned above, you could use where the ps2 feeds in for your reversing camera - assuming you can get it working and you don't use the ps2...,,, 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Yes - the PS2

There isn't a factory fit Aux in, but there are ways of connecting one in so that it is automatically detected & appears on the head unit. The simplest way is to buy a cable like this that plugs between 2 units in the boot. Some of these connectors also come with a reverse camera input, some don't. So, you might get lucky.

However, the person who fitted the PS2 might have had more technical knowledge and spliced it straight into the wiring loom.

Follow the video output cable of the PS2 & see where it goes - and whether there are any other RCA plugs floating about wherever it connects to Thumbs Up

It does have screens in the rear headrests.
Traced the wiring from the ps2 slightly, (ignoring the power) the video/audio cable out the back of the ps3 splits into 3. 2 seem to run up the D pillar and one runs under the wheel arch trim area, lost it as it went under the seats.

Ah - that was the perhaps obvious bit I was missing Embarassed

In order to wire in a reverse camera, you'll need something like the cable I linked to above. It will come with instructions - it has a plug one one end and a socket on the other - you remove one of the TV cables in the boot & plug it there.

You will also need an NTSC reversing camera - not PAL - there are plenty on eBay.

Finally a relay to your reversing light - the way the lead works is whenever there is a camera signal to it, it displays on the monitor, over-riding the current picture - so you only want it powered up when you're reversing.

When I did mine - many years ago - I had a tow bar - so i tapped into the reverse connection for that as it was easier to get to. I also chose to mount my camera down there as it was easy & required no drilling - I used the tow bar wiring hole to feed the cable.

Other options are to mount the camera up high under the roof spoiler or drill a hole somewhere - some people have mounted them in the reversing light itself.

All depends how competent / brave you are Thumbs Up

Went to the main dealer today to try get a list of what my car was ordered with and this is what I got.

"Personal telephone integration" - does this mean I have Bluetooth?
"13 pin X" - is this the 13 pin trailer towing electrics?
"Auxiliary heater" - does this mean it came with the fob or just that it was fitted as standard for a td6?

See my post on Carpc, lots of stuff early on about a retro fit PSOne, similar to your PS2 setup probably, might help you identify the wiring...

The switch probably turns on the PS2 ? .

if you have the receiver in the boot you can add a fob to it.

The only thing i can think of for "13 pin X" is the towing electics - assuming it has a tow armature fitted.

It's got a tow ball, seems a professional job, except for the wiring I mentioned in my first post.

Agree the wiring for the tow bar looks a bit of Hotch potch. That is definitely a generic towing relay, and is probably the source of your problems. I would be getting a car specific wiring kit from of jones and starting again. It's not a hard job to do and shouldn't be too pricey. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
