Well exactly, but at the same time Land-Rover are selling branded leather conditioner.[/quote

Agreed there seems an inconsistency, unless perhaps the products are just for seats that are neither semi-aniline nor perforated. I looked at the website of LR leather supplier Bridge of Weir. Their general rules for regular cleaning and maintenance (not just for car seats) say:
- clean the leather with a soft damp cloth taking care not to soak the leather
- do not use saddle soap, wax polishes or spray polishes
- do not use any product or method of cleaning not recommended by the manufacturer. Only Range Rovers since 1988

One problem with a damp cloth is it doesn't remove all dirt. Not so much of a problem with black leather, but parchment will look filthy, even if you work in a relatively clean job your clothes pick up all sorts of air bourne contaminants and transfer them to your car seats, god help you if you bush against something greasy!

It might be worth emailing Bridge of Wier and ask them. I might email JLR customer services, they're pretty helpful, they were for finding out the history of my old X-Type (ex Jaguar company car)

I agree - the lighter colours don't look good unless they are clean and I found that impossible to achieve without a cleaning product and a brush, even using seat covers during autumn/winter when my car gets dirtiest.
Before this thread started I called JLR Customer Relations Centre to ask about cleaning perforated seats (on 10.4). They have not yet called me back, probably because I also asked what UK engine options there would be in the 405 after Euro 6 starts in September.
I'll post on this thread what they say about cleaning. Only Range Rovers since 1988

They do sometimes take a while to call you back if it's something they have to go and consult on.

I wouldn't have thought there would be any difference in treating perforated leather than normal leather. Perforated is just the normal leather with holes punched in to it.

Perhaps not surprisingly, JLR Customer Relations recommended the cleaning product sold by LR dealers for cleaning the seats of my 322 Westminster, but said that other quality leather cleaners could be used subject to checking effect on a small less visible area first. I asked whether the same applied to semi-aniline leathers such as on the 405 SE/AB and was told that advice had been obtained only for my vehicle, so no comment on those seats.
My other questions were about Euro 6 engines and homologated off road tyres for the 405. News on euro 6 will be issued via dealers. Again not surprisingly, there is no news on off road tyres. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Autoglym are recommended by Jaguar (says so on the bottle), so you would have to assume the leather in Jaguars is from the same supplier as Landrover. I've been using it at glyptone for years on both my rover mini, jaguar and various other cars and it's never done them any harm.

You could probably get away with using garlic mayonnaise or donkey semen on them but it doesn't necessarily mean it's the right thing to do.

Education, not vexation.

A small amount of research will easily identify which products are most suitable for use on modern automotive leather, and most traditional products (particularly "conditioners") aren't them. Coated leather can't be conditioned or "fed" as such, but apparently Autoglym Leather Care Balm "is a carefully blended pH neutral emulsion containing natural oils which nourish and moisturise vehicle leather".

If you really think there's a direct and genuine link between Jaguar's name appearing on Autoglym labels and the stuff in the bottle ever having been considered on an objective basis for a specific Jaguar-tailored use, I have some magic beans you can buy.

So when people don't immediately agree with your point of view and politely ask if you can support your point of view, you resort to being rude and insulting? Laughing

When you initially posted on this thread i was genuinely interested in your point of view and genuinely attempted to research it. However when asked about it you just became rude and insulting. Your argument is deeply flawed and of the links you posted to apparently substantiate your opinion one actually sells leather conditioner!

So i guess you're just a rude and argumentative individual, who frankly isn't worth listening to.

I explained why urethane-coated leather can't be "conditioned" in the traditional sense - the surface is more-or-less impermeable to natural proteins, fats, oils etc. assuming it's intact. All it needs is to be kept clean (then dirt can't abrade the coating, and it won't be damaged by oil, sweat, whatever on the surface) and to be kept hydrated - so use water-based cleaners (which I suspect most are) and protectants (rather than old-school conditioners).

I'd like to hear how my "argument" (I assume that's the facts, as stated above) is flawed.

I have no idea who is right or wrong in this discussion but my leather seats are clean, soft and supple after using the Autoglym products. However if I use the same products on my wife's TT leather interior it dulls the leather and dries it out. So I'm looking for a suitable leather cleaner and nourisher for her car. I'm willing to listen to any sensible suggestion guys. Travelling around in circles again.
