2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey
Trickle Charging

My Rangey gets very little use and after a recent stint of sitting on the drive; boot open, closed, open closed while we get things from it once again it was dead as a dodo...

Friend on D3 forum recommends a C-Tek charger with a 13pin socket set up that will allow a trickle charge.

As it's doing not much mileage is this an option or am I masking a deeper problem. Last time battery flat my auto-elec mate couldn't find a direct issue.

I have a decent Ring digital 16A charger but the thought of upping the bonnet and lifting a 110Ah Bosch S5 every month for a "top up" isn't thrilling me, a plug in option however is.

Nick, the C-Tek charger is indeed a good idea in any FFRR especially if not used on a daily basis Thumbs Up

Secondly, After someone on the forum raved over the prices of the Bosch S5 batteries and many members went out and bought them, I have found most fitted to TDV8’s i look after have been failing much like yours... Changed a few on customers cars 2 or 3 times under the Bosch guarantee, but in the end inevitably they all go the same way...

Yes, I did jump on that bandwagon (in fairness my LR one failed and turned out to be the original '07) and yes I too have had one exchanged under warranty.

If there is a simple plug and play C-Tek then I'll most likely go for that. I can't find it over on D3 just now but am sure someone knows.

With all the electronicals on board it's a big ask to draw all that and then expect a week later to turn over in one hit.

My S5 was on charge last night, fitted this morning and started first time very strongly. Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I've just ordered a CTEK 7 as I wanted the supply option.

Will also be ordering a tow socket adapter from the FFRR Shop as well, that saves bu***ing about with bonnets etc.

i use a solar panel on my caravan to keep that topped up, might be an idea to do the same for the RR.

I use a Ctek 5 as like the 7 has the pulse charge function. I purchased an extension lead which is permanently fitted to the batt terminals and (being 2m long) can simply be attached to the Ctek in the garage. Bonnet can also be locked back shut again.

Naturally this is best with a garaged car but works well.

Cteks are well made and seem good quality products.

I also need to make sure I'm not forgetting and reversing out of the garage!!!

Used c teks for ages on classics and on the FF, saves a lot of batteries and car is always ready to go ( if you don't forget to take them out and drive along with the cables hanging out of the car.... Embarassed )

I use a Ring Automotive RSP600 Solar Maintainer (6A), which I bought for about £40 from amazing co uk, plugged into the front or boot cigar lighter socket (which are live all the time). It seems to keep my FF battery in a very healthy charge state. Thumbs Up
But it’s sunny down here Very Happy – dunno how good it’d be in the UK. It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 7 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.
