The only trouble with those covers is dust can get blown under them and with the wind causing them to flap continually, the paint surface can wear away in patches. Same can apply to glass on the car.
Saw a BMW once where the paint was almost thro to the metal.
Ok for short term use.

I was going to get one so then when I get a car Detailed/Valeted I can keep it that way until its collected a few days later!

I had a car cover years ago for my first RR Classic, for whilst I was away for 2 months in Australia.

It got dust underneath between the cover and the paint and indeed wore away at the clear coat, made a right state of it. Took hours of polishing to get it back. Will never buy one again unless it is a fitted cotton cover and the car is kept in a closed and sealed garage, like Ferrari owners have. Otherwise I'd rather just wash it again.

We have a breathable fitted cover for when our E55 sits outside unused -currently two weeks whilst my 110 gets driven -and I can't fault it.

Can't comment on dust, but it protects against tree sap, bird crap and fallen leaves. And it's soft and hasn't harmed the paint in a year of intermittent use. Si. <This is my name.

We are based in a wooded Valley and such a cover(s) would come in useful for nicely prepared Range Rovers...

Dust doesnt even need to get under for covers no matter how soft to start wearing paint surfaces away. Something rubbing continuously on a painted surface will cause damage.

I Have had a car cover on the Lotus Carlton for the last 3 years, the biggest problem i had was wind getting under the cover and blowing it off (ripping off the teathering straps). Ended up with 6 cargo starps holding it down.No problem with the paint rubbing as the cover didn't move 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Car covers get discussed a bit over on the cobra forum as they tend to be spend longer under covers than more practical cars. There have been a couple of isolated instances where they've even lifted off the paint, so most tend to avoid them.

Must admit I used one on mine, mainly as something quick to chuck over it when it was parked up outside and rain threatened. I never saw any appreciable impact to the paint, but it was only ocassional use. If I was using one commonly I'd be careful to choose a decent fitted one which doesn't move as much against the paint in the wind. Lloyd Barnes

I dug up this old post as I'm planning to get one for my 5.0. When we travel out here (like last 4 day weekend) the car is sitting in a car park in the blazing sun and I'm hoping that a cover will reduce the heat in the car a bit and also protect everything a bit (amongst other hoping it won't attract too much attention as being a Range Rover as they are very rare here).

Does anyone have any experience with the outdoor use of these on their FFRR or similar car ?? MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
