Been googling for days ...

Hi all,
I have just done the rewire and plugged it all in.
I get nothing at all. No BT I can find on my phone ... No voice control and when I press the telephone button nothing happens.

Is it like this until I force a pairing mode as described in the thread?

Also there was a black cable in position 39 so I took it out. No mention of what to do in the guide with 39?

Do you have Telephone on your screen menu ?

Is the text for it grey or white ?

You will need to put the ulf into pairing mode to get it to look for your phone.

You just needed to move the wires covered by the red text in the chart. Have you moved them to a new Audi plug you bought or have you just rewired the original plug ?

Voice control was not enabled by default on mine. I had to use navcoder.

I followed the chart exactly and the phone was still 'greyed'.

I put the cables I removed into a taped up bundle so they were safe. ( individually so no contact)

Chart doesn't mention the black cable in 39

Also it's a bit unclear how to pair. Has anyone done it? Thanks everyone ..

The text should be white, as you prob know....

Sounds like the ulf does not have power.... Have you checked the fuse ?

You only need a 12v feed and the earth to get power, plus the Ibus connection and the text will go white.

All the other connections can be done bit by bit, if you see what I mean.

Not sure about pin 39. I just moved the ones needed to a new plug I got from Audi and then connected that to the ulf. Old connector has all the other wires still in it and is not connected to anything. Sort of like you have done.

To get into pairing mode you need to short the cable in 32 to 36, but 36 will still need to be in the ulf also, so I used a chocolate block to push the wire from 32 in momentarily.

It's pointless trying to pair until you have telephone in white text.

Thank you .. To be clear I put a wire from one to the other while they are still in ace to short and start pairing?

Know what you mean about not being white so pointless. Will look again at that.

Black I could put back perhaps? No mention on web but it is there ... Not meant to be if chart right though?

Edit - a problem ... I have no way of knowing which is 32 now. I took it out ... Disaster?!

I think the procedure is something like put pin 32 into where 36 is, with 36 still in there between ulf and earth....

Rush round to front of car, turn ignition to pos 2, rush back to rear of car and pull 32 from 36 wire. Should have all 3 flashing LEDs above the screen at the front. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

It's coming back to me now .....

Pin 32 will be red / yellow and go to the eject box ie the console in the front where the pairing button would normally go.....

......but..

You don't have a pairing button, so connecting the red / yellow wire is pointless as that just goes to between the front seats with nothing on it.

So I put some wire I had kicking around into pin 32, say 5 or 6 inches long, and pushed the bare other end into 36 to simulate the button being pressed. I then put a connector on it so it doesn't touch stuff when not in use.

So your pin 32 is local to the boot now. Nothing to do with the existing loom.....

Make any sense ?

I also saw that the brown wire in pin 36 joins up to others a bit down the loom, so I connected temporarily to there to pair as it was easier to access than the actual pin on the ulf......it was all a bit tight near the ulf connector..... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I know its a long time since the last post but, Can we ignore pin 39 as I have it in my connector also and its not shown on the electrical circuit diagram ! I had a similar problem on my 18 pin DSP connector where the manual shows 8 wires and I have 9 ! Bob

I started my conversion from in-car phone to Bluetooth today because the last 2G (GSM) network (Vodafone) closes on 30th September.

I have a couple of questions. The three mounting tabs don't line up with the existing holes. I can get around it on the top but using the forward hole and using another threaded hole just forward of the rear tab.

The bottom tab can't be used so I'm planning to put a strip of foam double-sided mounting tape on the back and towards the bottom of the ULF to hold it in place and not vibrate around on our rough roads.

However, the biggest problem is the cable from the ULF to the antenna mounted on the nav system. The orientation of the connector in the ULF means the cable out of the right-angle cable connector is aimed at the vertical black mounting panel. This means the ULF cannot be screwed back on - see below.

In the pic above, the ULF mounting face is to the right. The catch on the connector is to the left, hence the cable is directed toward the mounting face. I opened up the ULF to look but the connector cannot be rotated.

I thought about reversing it end for end so the right-angled connector goes to the antenna but it can't be fitted, again because of the right-angle. Gaaahhh!

It looks like I'll need to source a new cable from somewhere.

Re the Audi 54-pin connector p/n 4E0972144, I just ordered one form my local VW dealer. Price in Oz is $30.80 incl GST. It should be here tomorrow. I was surprised to hear VW have plenty in stock.

I could have removed the excess pins from the old connector and put heatshrink on them but thought this is a neater way to go. I just need to ensure the old plug cannot be plugged in. I'll put a piece of heatshrink over the old plug to prevent its use. Ron B. VK2OTC
