Parking assist module water ingress

Hi guys,
New to the forum & probably the 1st of many technical queries.

Has anyone come across water ingress into the parking assist module?
Had car into dealers with few warranty jobs but just had a call from the dealers & they're not doing parking sensors under warranty as it's caused by a water leak into the module its self.

Just wondering how it could get into it so I can investigate & prevent again as don't want to pay for replacement only for it to happen again.

Also do the roof weather strips just press on with the clip? Have a broken one & don't want to pay £60 to fit some clips

Thanks,

Thats odd nearly always a sensor or the loom that needs replacing. If fault shown is more than one sensor faulty then its usually the loom.

i'd find out where this module is and inspect around that area for any other damage and try and find out where this water is coming in ... ... - .- -.

They said there was no sign of water around it but when they took module out it was full of water & they suggested that there may have been a water leak previously that's been repaired, they checked with previous dealer that all history is with & they've not done any work on leaks.
I've had car since jan & no work like that done on it & odd there would be water still after this long.
It's in the rear offside quarter near the fuse box, don't know of water leaks in that area, could jet washing get water in around the rear quarter or under wheel arches?
Can't look myself yet as not picking it back up until tomorrow hopefully & I can tear it apart then & was hoping someone may have encountered a similar issue. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

a 2012my shouldnt leak and i concur with your suggestion that over zealous pressure washing could have caused it if, some other bits in tgat area were wet.. ... - .- -.

That's very strange, it's attached to the back of the fuse box in the boot, if it had water inside from a leak then there would be a lot more around the fuse box... Early cars can rust out through the bottom of the rear wing but yours should be OK....

Could be that the water has traveled up from the rear loom, if it gets inside the loom outside the car it can, by capillary, travel up the wire and into the unit. You should be able to see this as the plug from the loom will show signs of water damage... A similar thing happens on the electric thermostat on the early BMW V8, the seal leaks and water travels up the loom and rots the ECU out.... I wouldn't have thought much would get inside the unit though.....

Take some pics when you get to look at it..... Pete

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll check it out once I've got it home & feed back.

Thanks, Pete, does the fuse box need moving or should I be able to access it without disturbing to much?

The only jet washing I know of is I had it washed a month ago & if the dealers did it last time I was in.

I'm going on my 03 one and yes I had to remove the fuse box to get to it, just a few screws... didn't have to unplug anything to turn it enough to see the unit... yours might have far more stuff in there so take a few pics before you have a go at it..... Pete

England 2005 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Tonga Green

Hi Guys,

When I bought my FF it has water coming into the off side rear and the headlining had turned green and there was clearly water getting in through the seal. It turned out to be an accumulation of mud, leaves etc externally sitting on the top of the rubber seal right next to the hinge in a place where a car wash / jet wash would miss. When it rained the water would pool behind the blockage and then overflow breaching the rubber seal. When I removed it, the lump was dry as the weather had been nice but it came off in one chunk. I've not had a problem since with any water ingress and the car is now dry inside.

This may assist or it may not but it is perhaps something to investigate........?

regards

Found my module easy enough, it's in left rear quater behind the removable panel & directly accessible. Had a good root arround today & found no signs of water leaking in to rear quater or sitting there, only evidence was 2 bolt heads directly below the module. Floor was bone dry & it's rained all day been for a run about & still none.

Opened up the module & its dry but shows water dammage & its toast Big Cry

My only thought is hopefully caused by condensation, just need a new one & will have to monitor it.

Yep, looks like you've found the problem... and does look like condensation... maybe a bag of silica gel in the new one?? Pete

Many thanks to Dan @Duckworth for supplying a replacement genuine module, speedy delivery & far cheaper than the dealers Bow down

Just fitted it & all seems good, The FF beep's again Thumbs Up

No sign of any other water still but threw a few sachets of silica gel in rear cubby hole to be safe incase it's condensation. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue
