Hi to all.I just bought full bluetooth set which as per seller's confirmation ulf fully upgraded so to be compatible with iphone 5 as well.
Set also includes the wire loom from bmw x5.
What i would like to know is if bmw loom can be directly connected to car's x400 white plug and to ulf module or i have to follow the opposite way and instead of modifying the 54pin connector i must rewire the white one which in bmw loom and connected with car's x 400plug
If yes can someone please tell me how bmw's loom white connector has to be rewired

Sorry i didnot mention car is l322 04.Can i use the bmw loom or i have to buy tel wiring loom for the l322 and make the necessary repinning???

The plug in the boot needs to be repinned. I wouldn't take the chance of plugging the BMW loom into it just in case.

but it states that loom is "less voice input system"
Is this means that i am not going to have VR or this is not needed since loom will be connected to BMW ulf or i will need kind of extra cabling??????

The voice loom was a separate option on the rr, but was integrated into the ULF on later bmws, so you don't want an RR telephone loom. If your ulf says "mit ses" on it then it will do voice commands over the normal telephone loom.

To be fair, I would imagine the loom from the bmw should work, as it would match the ulf. The question as you rightly ask is if the White plugs are the same.

I would fit the loom and then use a meter to see if the 12v feed is in the right pin for the ulf. That way you will save damage if it is wrong and save doing a rewire on another loom if it's correct.

mjdronfield nice to hear from you since i have seen that u have also fitted ulf.
To put you exactly in picture seller told me that he removed full ulf set fm x5 model 05.He made software upgrade so ulf to be compatible with iphone and with voice commands although sticker on ulf does not state "Mit ses" .
Is it voice commands matter of upgrade????
To my inquiries in respect to x5 loom he said that he has sold in past around 15 sets out of x5 for RR and installation with x5 loom was without any problem.
But i have to check for it so i be on safe side.

Upon receipt of the set,hope to have it next week,i will take loom photos and post them so u have a look and give me,if not any problem for you, further instructions of how i have to proceed since i am totally ignorant about electronic stuffs.

mjdronfield hi again from an internet search it seems,accg to diagnosticrepair.blogspot.com which redirects to bmwtips.com, that the bmw x400 connector has the exact same wiring with RR as per the attached.Whenever u have time can u please have a look and let me know.

I don't know what connections the RR has on the white plug to compare with your bmw diagram.

Below is the Repinning chart for going from an rr setup to a bmw setup for the ulf.

Pin 17 is the voltage feed. That is where it needs to be for the ULF, so have a meter on pin 17 and pin 36 and you should have a 12 volt feed. (or thereabouts).

If thats the case, I would proceed to connect the ULF, but thats just me. Do so at your own risk and all that.......

Mjdronfield GOOD DAY.Not any further need about bmw wiring since yday i decided to look for the x400 connector and much to my surprise i saw that car is already prewired.So what i will only need is either to repin 54 connector or much better for me to buy an adaptor. Any idea where can i find/buy such an adaptor???
Attached are photos of the existing wiring i found in car.Also on top of dvd there is an unplugged connector.Any idea what is it for?????

Hi,

The connector on top of the sat Nav is a black cable I would imagine that goes down to under / near the amp lower down. It should be the bluetooth antenna lead for the ulf. You need a bluetooth antenna on one end, which bolts to the 2 bolts sticking up on the frame on top of where the sat nav is, and the other goes to the ULF.

You will also need a microphone to fit in the front console opposite the sunroof switch.

As to the rewire, it's been discussed on here a few times and I don't really want to post it all again.

Are you sure you can't connect the bmw loom you have on the White plug in your car and then have a 54 pin connector from the bmw without Repinning ? If you see what I mean.....

I don't think there is an adapter available unfortunately, not at reasonable money.

Ok ok thanks for your reply.Have seen drawings for rewiring the 54pin so no need to post them again.
Since i now have both of looms will try the easiest way.

If any problem during retrofitting will revert.
