The whole reason for correct font and spacing is not solely for ANPR -yes, that's sophisticated, it's for the Joe Public watching a toe rag driving off etc. and it's easier to see ,distinguish, and remember. There are many things people tinker with that are technically making themselves more police-ly magnetic.
