United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Carpathian Grey

The X5 is not a bad car by any means but it's biggest fault is that it is not a Range Rover and will never come close to being one (especially with those Censored run flats on )

Seems X5's dont live up to the same standards as a rr then Rolling with laughter

However my rr is not free from criticism:
Its slow
noisy like a tractor
constant threat of gearbox meltdown
expensive to maintain
people seem to think Ive got money as I drive a rr Confused
PC plod like to target there laser guns at it Censored
seem to suffer from rust (wtf in this day and age)

But it also brings joy with :
command driving position
very spacious inside
warm & comfortable
fuel burning heater
not to bad on mpg considering its size & weight
generally good on poor terrain
adjustable suspension
sound system
effortless drive

What else can I say...........

X5 (E53) from 2001 to 2004 have the same 3.0 Diesel engine and GM box as the RRFF Td6 and suffered from the same problems as RRFF td6.

On 2004 up to 2007 it is the same basic engine (184 HP) (177 on the rangie) with some remap to bring it to (218 cv) and few if not no changes other than that. I guess the GM boxes from 2004 to 2007 on the X5 had some kind of improvement to resolve the early problems. I don't know, and thats what im trying to sort out, if this changes were made by LandRover too, but as it happened at the time it had already shifted to Ford, i don't think LR got improved boxes. There are two different part numbers on Microcat for the L322 (one up to a particular sn and other from that on) but i can't find info on what changes are between the two partnumbers....

The X5 from 2007 -2013 (E70) is a completely different beast with a different engine and different box.

I'm planning to replace my 1997 P38 2.5 DSE by a 2004/5 L322 Td6 and what is keeping me worried are these GM boxes..

I also considered the X5 but only if from 2007 on (7 Seats). Other than performance i see no reason on opting for an older E53 Model.

Simples - spend what you were going to spend on an X5 on a TDV8 Thumbs Up

Fast
Quiet
Better 'box
More economy

Problem is I like BMWs - always have. The X5 is typically BMW in its feel and not a bad place to be. I tow ALOT and mostly heavy loads and the X5 simply isn't up to it. The latest version has a 3.5te towing capacity but that is something it has struggled to achieve - the FF is limited to 3.5te by law but in reality can cope with a hell of a lot more.

Oh, if you get an X5 don't ever try and tow a horse box off a wet field Laughing

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Mariana Black

I had an 06my 3.0d Sport in black and I had it for 5 yrs and never spent a penny on it apart from servicing and MOT's, now for a contradiction, the camber on the rear wheels will cost you a fortune in tyres as the inside of the tread will be down to the thread but the rest of the tyre will be perfect before you know it !!!

As its already been said, perfect cars on tarmac, awfull off road, and exceptionally quick if you get the 218bhp version, the only thing i felt about mine was that it was 'soul-less' ............. Hard to describe realy, it was almost too perfect.

Ive had my FF since last Sept and wouldn't change for the world, even though it costs me money now and again, it's here to stay, until i replace it................. With a newer one !!!!!

Thumbs Up Semper in merda sumus, solum altum variat !!

Scotland 2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Buckingham Blue

I do like the e70 got a shot in one of the 40d a while back which was an amazing machine incredibly quick and yet great mpg. Not sure if i would ever change over from my FF to the e70 but if i did it would need to be the 40d . However i wouldn't go near the older shape, the 3.0 d has the same gearbox as the td6 and fails just the same. Everyone i know thats owned one gearbox has failed between 60-80k miles. plus i just don't like the look of the old one very dated looking in my opinion. Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE )

I had a X5 from Land Rover assistance while my Defender was having a new engine once (don't ask !!) (or go over to Defender2.net and you can read the whole sorrid story) It was fast, bloody fast stopped well handled well, it was very plain and boring not particularly good on fuel. I would rather have a Disco 4 or my Defender for work any day. At home it has to be a Range Rover sorry you just cant beat them. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver

I bought a new X5 30. Lemans ltd edition sport it was rapid and good on fuel.
The Le Mans is set up a lot different than the standard sport diesel look at the torque figures and compare them.
I gave £50200 for it and sold it with about 16000 miles on it 22 months old and lost a grand a month on it.
RR & X5 are two different animals if you are on the Tarmac all the time the X5
Over the RR is good but off road you are wasting your time with the X5.
Just my opinion you pay your money you take your chance but they eat tyres LOL

I changed my 4.4 Vogue for a 30d X5 M Sport 2 years ago. Nice car with pano roof and 7 seats. However, the ride is way too firm, noisy engine and it transmits any bump in the road.

I really hate it!

Had a longing to go back to a RR so will be looking over the next few months to change it back, hope to come back to the forum and show off my next Rangie.

My advice for what it's worth so avoid the X5 :@) 2005 L322 Vogue Gold gone

Just noticed, contrary to my post above that the X5 from 2004 to 2007 uses the 6HP26 (six speed auto) on the 3.0 TD6.

hummm no one ever tried fitting one on the Rangie ?....

Mustard...I think that over the couple of threads that you have spun up to discuss options, one thing is blindingly clear...

...your not a fan of Range Rover's are you?

Get it sold and get a bus ticket 'til you find something you like Rolling with laughter Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I am no longer fanatical about them, you are right but there's a stack of people before me who have arrived at the same conclusions. You've done your fair share of moaning about them as well, still a fan ?? Rolling Eyes
