Questions about upgraded head unit

The previous owner (or the one before him) in 2008 or thereabouts upgraded the head unit in my car to a Kenwood touch screen all singing and dancing unit - DVD/Satnav/CD/Radio with ipod and usb connectors (although I cant find the usb wire and the ipod seems to be for an older model) with remote and headrest screens - and installed a Parrot hands free kit as well

Solved hands free problem
Now the parrot "loses" the connection any time I switch off and I have to re-enter the code each time I remove the key. Not the end of the world but obviously something I would like to fix - is it simply a matter of finding a manual with install instructions and seeing where the wires are supposed to go? (providing I can find them)

The head unit (while dated) works ok so I am not sure I can justify the expense of replacing it with a new Android type (but I am tempted) however I was wondering about changing the time on the clock in the car? (the OCD in me is strong with that) and what other functions have I lost since that unit went in? there seems to be some sort of voice control button on the steering wheel, was that just for the previous sat nav or did it have other functions?

Don't know about non standard stuff, but if you disconnect the battery or pull the right fuse at 12 o'clock, the clock will go to 12 when the power comes back.....

As to the voice button, you will need to have the voice control unit in the boot from factory. It was separate to the telephone control module when new. If you had the original kit in, you could have fitted a ULF from a later bmw and had voice control and auto bluetooth connect to mobile. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

have you tried to update the Parott firmware? You can do this via Bluetooth on a PC and the instructions are on their website.

Tried and failed Confused the only laptop I have with Bluetooth is a windows 8.1 and it simply won't connect or even see the parrot - I also tried an older windows 7 laptop but it refused to play ball as well (I am an IT technician so would know my way about these things) I gave up at that point but I think I have a laptop in the workshop that might do the job - I'll get a look later and see if it helps Smile

Same as me really so what you will have to get is a "parrot update cable"

Expensive for a quick flash (so to speak) but it worked for me. I'm not sure what model Parrot you have though but at the moment it appears to be verging on a John Cleese version:

I'd imagine somebody somewhere has one of those lying in a drawer not being used (a bit like the specialist tools needed to work on some cars) and the day I would buy a cable said somebody would post here going "I have one you can borrow" Laughing I'll hang on to see if the laptop I have will work (I'm just waiting on a new hard drive to arrive for it) before looking for a cable Cool

And at least the hands free issue is solved Cool Took the laptop out and tried again and this time (for whatever reason) everything worked fine. The software updated ok and once my phone connected it synchronised and now works fine without me having to connect it manually every time.

Now to see if I can find the USB cable although I have a notion this means getting access to the back of the head unit Rolling Eyes
