ah the benefits of good design.......

wasn't planning on taking the lamp out but after 5 mins of trying to get the hose clip off I took it out and it also gives a bit more room so you don't have to unplumbed the expansion tank....

on closer inspection it appears that the mechanic accidentally stuck a driver through the expansion tank hose probably while trying to pop it off..... Hey ho, no harm done.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I have located the possible source of the brake judder....... i think.

i was washing my 20"s in the garage and noticed that there was a load of grease on the inside of the rim Question so I had a poke around.

originally i though that this was coming from the caliper flexi last year when i had a similar problem. that is now dry and therein a new problem.....

Even though the separate ball joints on the suspension arms are only a couple of years old somehow the rubbers have split and that is the source of the grease on the discs, i think! both sides have signs of grease around the ball joints and need swapping. I think it is possible the local non LR mechanic who could have been the source of the problem and may have knackered them when fitting the large rear arms!

2 New ball joints are needed. and looking at the two larger arms the big bushes on these are not looking good too, again fitted by the local mechanic. I noticed that he had installed them and torqued them on the ramp and straightened them straight away! should have realised he had broken something else too!!

Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry more money.......

so in the box to be fitted

new front discs
new front brake lines
new front pads
recon brembo callipers

to buy
ball joints x 2
big suspension arms x2
ball joint bolts x4
lock nut x 2

check on the other stuff!

am going to have a look at the rear bushes as well, as these haven't been touched yet by me!

So the job list is as follows

Change NSF wheel hub and Bearing
Change NSF and OSF steel brake pipes
Change NSF and OSF flexi brake pipes (for good measure)
Change NFS and OSF discs
Change NSF and OSF Pads
Change NSF and OSF Capliers
Change NSF and OSF ball Joints
Change NSF upper suspension bush/arm (I have a spare Bush for some reason)

now i will look at the back! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I am about to replace front and rear discs & pads and rear calipers on my TD6... Having seen an ocean of Chinese pattern discs and pads on the market place over the last few years, which seem to warp, wobble, screech, whistle, crack etc...I am inclined to opt for these;

I have ordered a pair of rear TRW calipers from EuroCarParts as the O/S unit is seized as Craig quite correctly warned me about many months ago.

I think that labour is so expensive these days it is cheaper to pay a little bit extra for quality parts and do the job once... 2008 Range Rover TDV8 435,000kms

It's a good call!

Pretty much All the stuff I have fitted over the years has been genuine or oem from decent suppliers , bar a set of Pagid rear discs, which seem ok so far. The last rear caliper i fitted was a re manufactured trw unit done by brake engineering. So far so good.

Make sure you clean out the pad guides on the caliper carrier, worth stripping it off too and setting at with a file!

The failed ball joints were lemforder ones, but I'm wondering if they were an older part no. As from 8A the upgraded them to b6 armoured spec for all cars! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

There is an option for MOOG ball joints too, but not too sure on current quality, judging by some of the reports in the US they have possibly gone downhill too.

will have a look at the meyle ones though. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Moog was always a quality product, but it seems to have gone totally wrong over the last 5 years or so. I saw a Toyota Landcruiser fitted with new Moog front ball joints...exactly a year later one of them popped out of its socket on the side of the road with a trailer load of livestock behind....not impressive by any means.

I always rated Lemforder as they were OE on several Mercedes we ran and seemed pretty decent....maybe you got one of a bad batch or maybe the mechanic did misfit it Question 2008 Range Rover TDV8 435,000kms

Been browsing the tinterwebs for a new ffrr, having just spent a small fortune on the old girl so far this year I don't think my rational mind can hold out much longer against the pull of the man maths.

Have found a nice looking one I like, I'm going to look at it tomorrow! Which could be fatal! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had a look at the one I had seen this evening, it needed paint, a good detail, hoovering out as it was full of dog hairs, I'm sure it would have been acceptable after prep, but looked like it had been well used (which is no bad thing, but I'm a fussy Censored tard) There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
