SoWHY would anyone do this???

OK, bit of background info.
We bought our 2003 4.4 L322 from a non LR car dealer in Basingstoke about 4 years ago, prior to that we had bought a P38 from the same dealer which we had for 11 years and it never (almost!) let us down.

The L322 however...

Well thats another story, suffice to say that on top of the £11500 we paid for it as a part ex, we have now spent £20,000 on repairs / servicing!

Anyway, about a year after we had the car there was a 'clunk' and the steering wheel in/out/up/down adjustment stopped working (the up/down never worked).

As I dont drive the car much as I work abroad and my wife has the seat pushed forward to drive it, it didnt really cause much of a problem.

Anyway, its been at the LR car hospital for the last week (new Water pump), and one of the items we asked them to check was the seat memory had had a brain fart and given up the ghost, so my wife picks the car up today and was asked 'have you noticed the steering a bit vague'?

They have fixed the seat memory (motor failed), BUT the steering column now goes up/down/in/out again, apparently the problem was that the previous owner had TAKEN ONE OF THE MOTORS OUT!!!!!

WTF!!!! Why in Gods name would you do that?? Unless you have not got the money to service the car properly and leave it for some other sucker (ie ME) to pick up the pieces!!!!!

Moral! Never buy a low mileage Range Rover! The reason its low mileage is that it has spent most of its life in the bloody dealers being repaired!!!!! Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Anyone want to buy a 2003 4.4, 100K on the clock, brand new mechanicals........

Looks fabulous though. Very factory fresh. An original car (in my personal view) makes this so nice to see one that has not been "personalised". 2006 4.2 SC

Shocked Shocked Shocked

Re the steering up/down/in/out. Mine stopped working, but I didn't bother getting it fixed as it had stopped in the correct position. When I had the wheels aligned it started working again. It's stopped again now. WTF? Laughing

Agree! I actually love it, but my wife...... I think the thing is that it has let her down so often that she has lost all confidence in it.

We will probably end up with another one though, this is our fifth RR, and all petrol V8's!

Yep! Main Dealer!

The main items that have been repaired/ replaced are (in no particular order!)

Gearbox (Specialist - twice!)
Rear Suspension Linkages / Bushes
Air Compressor
Fuel Pump
Alternator
Batteries (several)
Seat Motor
Radiator
Trans Oil Cooler
Height Sensors
Headlight Unit
Headlamp washer motors
Rear wash/Wipe
Various other bits too numerous to mention!

Strangely though, it has never failed an MOT on emmisions, and the exhaust system is still sound!!
