You could buy a custom billet crank for less than £5k. Not sure what you could actually do to it to make it that price, apart from mount jewels on it.

Edit - I will qualify it by saying you're obviously risking things not being easily sortable with something like that.

Yes, good alternative. Go and have a bespoke crank machined instead, you'll save thousands. Rolling Eyes

Not sure what you are getting at - Craig says the crank is over £5k, I say you could buy a custom billet BMW V8 crank for less.

What point are you trying to make?

I'm suggesting that when Craig pointed out you were wrong, rather than admit defeat you pick some other way of trying to be right.

But you're still wrong!

I see, just being chippy then.

Aside from that, I always wondered why they went to so much trouble for the results with the 580S (building a new engine, changing gear ratios etc.) instead of, say, supercharging it.

It seems to be the OF way - no replacement for displacement.

ETA why can't you quote the previous post?

No, i don't know of anyone fixing them! Its been end of life for the two most recent OF's I've been offered... Many we get offered are back to a standard 4.4 engine as the OF lump has failed in the past...

Every one that i have heard of failing has been crank related but I'm unsure why...

Thanks Mr Verbose. I'm not sure it makes reading a thread at a later date as straightforward as it might be but sometimes that's just how it is I appreciate.

Craig - thanks. Shame the expensive trick part also fails. That one appears to have the correct engine (well the covers anyway) but maybe one to miss. Shame. I wonder what a warranty co would say.....
