I think you may be right the terrain selector out of Auto will default to a pre-programmed setting witch would alter throttle response traction settings and damper settings as the car needs to know what it is you are driving on to keep things in control so if you have not made a selection but have taken the selector out of the auto detent the car will default to a setting that will keep things in control and safe IE, a slightly more damped suspension setting I hope this helps you are not going mad !

While not about the suspension feel I did want to add something I noticed with regard to TR2 and its Auto mode. The weather has been cold and snowy for the past few weeks and I had noticed the gas pedal wasn't quite right. I couldn't put my finger on it but the response was off and it was not as smooth compared to the amount of pedal I was giving. But this was all inconsistently happening - enough to annoy me but not enough to say something was broken.

Then I happened to take TR2 out of Auto and noticed the display showed the car was in Grass, Mud & Snow and then it made sense. The Auto setting was putting the car in GMS and that's the difference I was feeling in the pedal and throttle response. I tested it for the next few days taking it in and out of Auto and the difference in throttle only happened when it would come out of Auto in GMS mode. When it would leave Auto mode in Standard, everything would be like normal.

It would be nice if there was some small visual indicator as to what TR2 was doing. I understand they're going for the "set it and forget it" process but the odd throttle would have had me in the dealer in the next week or so.

So the temperature is saying it might be icy and the TR2 is saying it WILL be icy and compensating. The trouble with all of these devices is they work for the least competent. these things are being imposed by the play station generation but disliked by people able and willing to think for themselves. letters not necessarily in the right order

It takes a mere press of a button to turn it off for as long as you want it off.

I noticed it, and now I press the terrain button to put it in manual mode if I need a smart getaway.

I'm pleased someone else believes me and I have now had the chance to try out a new SDV8 AB demonstrator - exactly the same as my own vehicle. With the terrain selector out of auto and simply in normal road setting, the suspension is better damped and I also notice the smarter getaway as mentioned by the Emperor. I have to say that the best way to describe the suspension sensation when the terrain control is in auto, is as if the seat suspension and the vehicle suspension start to work out of sync with each other. The Service Manager at the Dealers says he has also noticed this effect but was sure it would diminish as the seats get worn in - same old 'patter' isn't it ? Rolling with laughter

Funnily enough, I noticed the same with our 4.4 last night. It seemed the throttle was in slow mode! I pressed the TR button and it came up on the dash that it was in grass gravel and snow mode.
Set it to standard manually and all now fine again!
I hasten to add that my wife hadn't noticed anything wrong, and she drives the car 90% of the time! 2017 Range Rover SDV8 Vogue SE

Tried this over the last week and can't say I've noticed much on the suspension side of things but definite change in throttle response when hovering around freezing. Like many of these automatic things, glad they can be disabled. Has anyone still got high beam assist turned on?!!
