Auto Terrain Response - is it me?

Took a ride out the the other day and just by chance had left the Terrain Response control in the manual 'General Program' position - ie selector control up and therefore no longer in Auto mode. I had never tried this before (usually left in Auto mode) and it struck me that the ride along a regularly travelled stretch of motorway felt different to usual - more damped and less 'floaty'. The ride quality seemed actually better than in the Auto mode but I thought it must be just me having a senior moment!
However, it intrigued me so I turned off the motorway and went back to the start of the journey and re-engaged Auto mode - the 'floaty' ride effect was definitely there. Another re-run with Auto off confirmed there really was a slight but perceptible difference and I actually preferred the non-auto setting.

Time for the real test.

My better half had said there were moments when she felt a little queasy in the car (nothing to do with me!) and felt it was something to do with the soft ride that wasn't present in the old L332 TDV8 Vogue. So, not telling her what we were aiming to achieve, I requested SugarTits's presence and we went out for a day's drive around the island with a mix of motorway and general roads with a bit of unpaved tracks for fun.

Nett result - she did notice the difference and we both tried several test runs with/without Auto Terrain Response. I now leave it in Manual mode for better ride control in general use - has anyone else found this? Cool

Interesting, I'll try this out tomorrow and report back.

I can honestly say I don't find the ride either floaty or overly soft though.

Likewise I will give it a go. However if you find the L405 floaty compared to the L322 I would suggest there may be something wrong with your car. I have driven all l405 variants and the body control is revolutionary compared to the L322. It is the best improvement of the new car over the old in my view.

...unless we are talking the TDV6 where body roll is still very much present!

Still much better controlled than an L322 though!

Not tried it from the ride perspective but I have noticed that, on an icy morning, it feels like the power is reduced in auto mode. Putting it in road mode returns the power.

I have tried this the last couple of days on varying surfaces & I can report I have found no noticeable difference in the ride at all. Maybe there is an issue with your car?

I am beginning to wonder - my first post was about finding that fitting a 'tuning box' did remarkable things to the performance and economy but destroyed the ride comfort over less than perfect road surfaces. The car has been thoroughly checked by franchised main dealers both here in Cyprus and the UK and it has certainly got the latest software installed but no faults found. Wheels are standard 21" and tyres are Goodyear Eagles in good condition - tyre pressure as per instruction book. I am not talking about body roll like the L322 - I am referring to the damping when driving along undulating roads which can cause a for/aft pitch which translates into a sort of boating sensation - as if the tyres were too soft or the shock absorbers were ineffective. It is not dramatic but is certainly discernible - almost as if the seat isn't in tune with the suspension.

Other than that, the car is fantastic to drive and a pleasure to own

No boating sensation with mine. That's how my L322 5.0SC felt but my L405 SC which has adaptive dynamics handles really well with no boating sensation. Really happy with the progress on the chassis set up. I love it. I leave the TR in auto mode all the time.
