Gear shift lever replacement

Has anyone ever changed the gear shift on a 2010-2012 L322? There is a video on an older L322 but mine has the stainless plate that surrounds the shift boot and I don't think it snaps out from it. Thanks in advance!

Hi

A picture would help, but most likely yours is identical to older model (i.e. an actual gear lever, not the rotary knob)

To get the metal piece off, take the gear-lever off (simply pull it up) then turn it upside down, using a plastic trim tool (or a screwdriver with thick tape on it), lever the thin and narrower part of the metal trim, then lift it all up.

It is tight but you will get it. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Update: So I have ordered a new gear shift lever. The leather part pops out of the stainless surround with 4 snaps and then the lever while new neutral pulls straight up and the other goes right back in. I changed one on my SPORT and it took about 3 minutes or less. The dealer has 2 hours to replace if they do it. Is that normal for dealers to charge that much for such an easy replace?
