Do they rust from the inside out or the outside in?

The 2008 I've just viewed has bubbly arches and needs sorting. Not a deal breaker necessarily but if it's from the inside of the arch out then I need to look deeper before committing. Outside in not such a big deal...

I thought they all had that.....

Very badly protected from the factory and that panel is steel.....

Many rub down and repair and the slide on a rubber lip protector.

Usually rusts from outside in......

rear of the arch (near the bumper) will be almost certainly from the inside...

If its inside where the rear door opens? Then stonechip damage

Yes, loads of threads on it, common problem, have a search there are a few solutions to protecting the arches once repaired. Mostly surface rust caused by stone damage. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If you've clocked it before you buy the car, don't buy it unless they agree to fix it properly and a smart repair is no good because it will quickly return. As soon as the paintwork is properly dealt with, put a greased rubber strip on the arch to keep corrosion at bay.

See before and after arch repair images. If you look closely at the 'after' picture you can see imperfection under the paint finish and this quite rightly went back to the bodyshop to be done properly.
