Folks,

Any recommendations for side bars? Not the boards that are linked to the front mud flaps but a decent set of quality side bars/tubes that I can use to stand on when cleaning the beast and to protect from car park door dents etc?

Oh ... and a set that are easy to fit and don't require drilling additional holes anywhere.

For around £20 ... kidding on that bit.

Tubes are normally a "style statement" on a 322 rather than a usable object...

As Craig said, more a style thing...this was mine before I de-tubed it last weekend....

Nope you can't stand on them, look better in black though imho

Agree the tubes look better in black The silver ones looked OK on my previous silver beast, but not on the current car So they are confined to the shed! SDV8 AB MY 2019

They all look good - thanks for the info. So is it purely decorative or do the tubes serve to protect from car doors etc?

Any recommended brands or ones to avoid? Something that I can simply fit into existing holes underneath and doesn't require it to be up on a ramp would be good

I think a black would look better with my colour scheme. I have no chrome anywhere so having chrome tubes/bars would look odd IMHO.

mine are actual steps and are easy to fit using the existing holes under the FF....

Sorry guys but I can't stand the sight of those 'tubes' on the FFs (or any other 4x4 that's not used for serious off-roading).

They are called 'ROCK SLIDERS' and their sole purpose and use are to protect the sills of vehicles, used off-road, when driving over really rocky terrain. They should only be found on vehicles also fitted with 'Diff Guards', 'Sump Guards' and other kit normally found on vehicles doing the 'Camel Trophy' type of driving or REAL off-roading (I do include serious green-laning in that statement).

IMO, you would be better off getting a set of side steps fitted...

I know this will cause an argument but they are by far the best embellishment you can put on your 4x4 (for what most of the 4x4 drivers buy their vehicles for, i.e. kudos value, posing, comfort, etc.). They make access into and out of your FF sooooo much easier, not just for the ordinary person, but also for the vertically challenged, elderly and infirm. Also makes getting in and out so very easy when parked in tight spots, plus helps to prevent the seat side and panel from getting damaged...not to mention the knackered steering columns from people using the wheel to haul themselves into the FF.

OK, rant over.....now to face the flack

The problem with tubes is that people getting in and out of the car don't know what their real purpose is, and will attempt to use them as a step up to the car, with potentially painful results!

Agree to some extent, I do prefer the look without them but my kids use them to get in and out....... And they blend in a bit better when black..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
