ok, so I've been offered an early '08 tdv8 vogue with fmdsh, immaculate inside & out, no faults, no advisories last mot, 148000 miles...

What would be a good price for this car and would I be better off with this than an older lpg petrol v8 with less miles?

I realise that a motorway cruiser with high mileage will be less worn in some respects than a town car with half the miles but high mileage cars still scare me, I can't help it lol! Your encouragement may help me get over my fears, depending on your opinions of course.

Once again, your thoughts are much appreciated!

The car you're describing could almost be mine. I have a 2008 TDV8' VSE on 148k miles. I would go for the newer car but keep in mind that at that mileage you should budget for high mileage turbo diesel related repairs and also double the road tax.

In saying all that, the later car with the much, much more modern technology would be my choice. Thumbs Up

As a guess, I'd say around £12,500-13,000? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

What would you consider to be the high mileage related items that are likely to be near end of life on this engine? Turbo's, gearbox, injectors hp pump? Or all of the above?

The thing I'm perhaps most concerned about is although it's fmdsh, that also means that the auto box oil won'thave been changed...well probably anyway...I understand that a md wouldn't change the oil until 150k. If I change the oil now it could be a make or break for the gearbox.

Yeah all the above, plus bushes, and other suspension parts.

There are so many variables no amount of lists on here will cover them all. You just need to go in with your eyes wide open and have a budget for the likely repairs. Mind you, this is the same as any FF.

As to the gearbox oil, there are several threads about the merits (or otherwise) of changing it. Again, it's wise to know it might/should be done soon, but again, no one on here can assure you of no further issues.

Best advice would be to get an independent inspection done by a FF specialist. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

If it's been well looked after, high mileage shouldn't detract from a good car. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I don't see that as being an issue, but it really depends on what kind of life it's had and how it's been looked after. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
