Alternator charging rate?

Anyone know how many amps the alternator will put into the battery? Just wondering how much of a drive would be required to fully charge the battery from fairly flat.

Mine was getting a bit low so have put it on the charger overnight, but really it has only had one decent run each week over the past few weeks, 30 mins each way. Plus a bit of fbh action, it was a a it slow to turn the other day.

Own fault really cos I started it 3-4 times without a run and had the boot open for a while doing the rear squirter so flatness was expected still started though Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well it takes about 40seconds to replace the power taken out of the battery from a normal start....

FBH, lights etc will draw a fare amount because of the time they are on for....

30mins should be long enough.... Pete

Was perfectly perky after a bit of a run yesterday but didn't show a full charge on the ctek initially, but to be honest I didn't really wait too long as it was snowing.....

Being on charge overnight won't do it any harm so just have to not forget to disconnect it before I run it to the garage in the morning for a hose swap. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yep, you will look a bit silly trailing an extension lead down the road......

Good luck with the hoses.... Pete

I was told that 13 miles will charge it back up although I'm not sure if thats a nearly flat battery. Thumbs Up 2020 Porsche Panamera Turbo Hybrid (V FAST)

JST - from flat and needing booster cables to start I suspect the 8 mile drive will give it enough to be able to start the car but will not be a full charge.

Please also remember some of this will be down to the battery itself. It may be charged but may not hold that charge for long if it has been completely flat and one or more of the plates are kaput. Ash

good point Ash, i misread the post, thought it was how long from a flat start to get it to restart off own battery. Cheers

James

I would suspect that to put a full charge into the battery from completely flat would take several hours of running, but I suppose it's an open question as it depends on how much charge is actually left in the battery.

Say it needs 60ah putting back and the alternator puts out 30ah then it will take 2 hours to fully charge....... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
