Same as Paul, I have the CTEK comfort connector on my battery and charge up every few weeks, as I only do about 10 mile a day and watch TV a bit at lunch times......

Hi mrblonde
Ensure your cable amp rating is higher than the INLINE FUSE. I use a 10 amp fuse with cable amp rating of 20 Amps. The trickle charger is set to 2 amps - A smart charger ( not a battery charger ) smart charger cuts off and does not keep charging the battery - will automatically top up if required. Charges and maintains Lead Acid, Gel, Calcium and AGM Batteries Fully Automatic Maintenance charging with 7 stage variable charging rates to keep the battery in optimum condition In built Reconditioning and desulphation stages help to prolong the life and increase the performance of your vehicles battery! Safe and Reliable |

or through the white trailer electric socket if you have one - saves opening the bonnet and plugs straight in if you wire a cable to the appropriate trailer plug to plug straight into the car socket - this is the quickest and safest way inho.

If this is any help to anyone.
Terminal Number Function 7 core wire colour 1 Reversing Light Yellow 2 Positive Ignition key ON (Battery Charging) Blue 3 Earth White 4 Positive direct from battery Green 5 Reverse Sensor (Optional), usually spare Brown 6 Positive Ignition key ON (Fridge) Red 7 Earth return for Fridge (Terminal 6) Black A charger attached is a very popular addition for UK FFRR owners and charging via the tow electrics takes the effort out of it. It also provides a point to power and unlock the car should the battery fail. http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/Charging_through_towing_socket |

I don't know about the 405, but when I had a battery failure on my 2004 322 4.4 (in a field by the Tweed on a Friday evening, sorted by Donald Lees Recovery of Galashiels who had the off road capacity to reach me) I needed to keep the battery alive over the weekend and had just a Triumph motorcycle branded trickle charger with a power socket adaptor to hand. I plugged that into the cigarette lighter socket and the charger showed it was working. I then just shut the (front) door on the charger cable and locked the car. There seemed no damage to cable or door seal (or the car's electrics) and the car started on the Monday and I got a new battery.

I have an Optimate charger and I bought an extended lead to connect to the battery. I also use the trailer socket using another Optimate cable and a plug I bought from a caravan shop.
