"A Bride doesn't keep her wedding dress in the box in case it gets red wine spilled on it at the reception so why have a FFRR and take a lesser car on holiday?"

Put the VRS on a trailer behind the FFRR and put all luggage in the VRS - Simples

Not too worried about getting it bumped as t will be in a secured underground car park for the duration, so should be fairly safe.

Realistically its in very good nick, fully serviced, and then some, alternator, turbo hoses, battery, suspension bits, brakes, gearbox service, all diff oils done, trams box done, and after the trips in the summer I'm sure it would make it there and back and I'm just being paranoid apart from an issue with the brakes on the St Tropez trip (leaking bleed nipple on front caliber contaminated the front pads) it was smooth and faultless the whole of that trip cruising at 85 all day kids watching films and swmbo sleeping. And in the end I have RAC Europe with Barclays so they will recover it and lend me a car if all goes wrong.

Mines dome 108k & I wouldn't even think twice about taking it. We burst a coolant hose on the run up to the resort last year - but just about made it there. I had the RAC out on the Monday morning, they couldn't find the leak in the car park so recovered it to a local garage who repaired it. The bad bits of that experience were 1) I had to collect it - they sorted me out a taxi (and paid for it), but wouldn't return the car to the hotel 2) I had to pay all the garage costs - around £200 - RAC are a recovery service & only cover the roadside costs, I did save about £50 on car parking (as I didn't collect it until the Friday), so that offset it a bit. |

Call me a Boy Scout but I always have one of these in the boot for just such an eventuality.

It was a lower hose - even on a ramp they said they struggled to pinpoint it

Ah, yes that is tricky enough to get at. Will give all the hoses a good going over though I think they are all sound.

I punctured one on the way to Bordeaux this summer - there's one that runs under the expansion tank - the pipe was resting on a bolt head & must have worn it's way through - it was literally right under the expansion tank.

Come on guys, it isn't right that to be able to drive to the Alps with confidence, you need to carry a roll of tape - and you wonder why I suggested taking the Skoda |
