Downsizing

I have asked the same question on the FL2 forum but thought I would ask on here to.
Thinking of downsizing to a Freelander 2 or in view of Landrovers legendary reliability something like a Santa Fe.
Anbody got experience of either I am sure I have seen some members run Freelander 2's as second or swmbo cars?
Thanks
Andy Mine was a blue one! Smile

Have owned two freelanders previously. I would have no hesitation in owning another if circs required it. Travelling around in circles again.

Some great lease deals on VW Tiguan 4X4 Match at the moment from £190+VAT pm business users. My wife has had one for 4 years zero hassle. Good and capable car that is peanuts to service.

Thought about one Gaz but think it's a bit to small. Thats why the Santa fe is on the radar as it's quite big. I do wonder if the Freelander might be a bit small as well Mine was a blue one! Smile

F2 & Tiguan roughly about the same size I think.

My brother has a Santa Fe and he is extremely pleased with it.
It is not quite up to LR standards internally but it is from another planet in terms of reliability!
5 year warranty as well.

Problem with Far East 4x4 is that they have no SOUL and after a RR that can be difficult to get used too. All the free servicing in the world cannot replace a grin. However the German 4x4 are a bit closer to being enjoyable than their Far East cousins. Jeeps are smile/fun too... (New Jeep Cherokee)

My parents have owned an '09 Freelander 2 HSE for about 4 years and love it. It's not suffered any unreliability at all.

Agree with Craig, though. Badge aside, you'd never really know the RR and FL were made by the same manufacturer. A FL feels tinny by comparison and the materials, though better than they used to be, still way short of a FFRR's.

But they're good, reasonably solid, pretty dependable workhorses that are comfortable and easy to drive with a prestige badge and good off-road ability.

I wasn't going to mention they lacked soul, until I read Gary's post above. But that's why I'd never buy one. Si. <This is my name.

My brother's wife now has a Freelander (they convinced themselves they didn't need the space of a Disco anymore), which is great, but the boot is very small.

Whilst it is "square" (and doesn't suffer the "sloping tailgate effect" of many) and high, it is very shallow making it not very useable in many ways, especially once the dog is in there as well - as a result they have no choice but to use a hefty roof box.

I have never worked out how they get to the quoted number of litres for the boot size, VDA method or not Confused

My Dad had a Santa Fe and he loved it. Never broke, never let him down, never got stuck in mud either....and had 7 year warranty....only changed it for a Honda CRV and that was just as good too !

He tested a FL2 and said it felt cheap... Rolling Eyes Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I'm considering a Tiguan R-line, or a Kia Sportage KX4.

On a lease deal, the Kia is a bit more expensive. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

I got my FL, it was a 2001, he had it 4 years, lovely car. I recently had a '14 FL from the dealer for a week, comp red to the FF, it felt extremely cheap. Very pokey though. Have you considered a ML350? 2011 5.0SC Santorini Black
2009 5.0SC Santorti Black - Been stolen.

Presume that will be better residuals on the VW - they are always offering great rates on their finance as well.

I was told by our VW dealer that the group own their own bank (one of the largest in the world) and resource all their own financing - perhaps one of the reasons why they are always so competitive Thumbs Up

England 2008 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Tonga Green

Hi,

We've had a Freelander 1 for 5 years and a Freelander 2 for 4 and a half so know a bit about both. All I can say is they really are very good cars indeed. But trying to compare a FL with a FFRR is just wrong because of the massive price difference between the 2. Of course the FL feels cheaper inside, it was £40,000 cheaper when new!

For a family car that has never let me down, is economical, good in all weathers with plenty of room for 4 and a dog I really think they are great. They are full of character and look good compared to the rather anonymous looking Jap/Korean rivals. I cannot tell the difference between most of these on the road and for me thats a no no.

I would not hesitate in buying another and think they will probably be the last of the truly affordable Land Rovers for the ordinary man in the street. Land Rover pricing for the new models, incl the Discovery Sport is just becoming too expensive.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Paul
