Canada 2008 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Java Black

No experience with the Freelander, but Dad & wife bought a Santa Fe new. It had a number of serious issues (new tranny? Not sure) and was traded in within 18 months. Of course, the servicing was all free under warranty, but there was a lot of it. Being a Canadian car it was (of course) petrol, but I don't remember any other details about it.

Just a quick note, the Hyundai's are INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE for parts!!! So, bare that in mind if buying a used one!

I have a mate with a Hyundau Terracan which he uses for shooting & general use, driveshaft £1000+ Propshaft £800 + etc etc etc... Just daft!

for the love of God.... DO NOT BUY AN XC90

The most disappointing car I have ever owned. Lovely looking and great interior. Mine was an SE Lux with all the toys, but when one thing went wrong it was one after another....could be excused as being a one off but the volvo forums were littered with XC90 faults...and they are not a cheap/smaller option for a FF !! Tax almost same price, 2.4 D5 is nice engine but felt underpowered at times, remap (I think) caused mine to be less effective and add a jerky driving experience.

The rear suspension is unique and if it goes wrong your looking at £500 per shocker Shocked

Craig is right on Hyundai parts BUT they don't often break !

The terracan(t) is a hateful ugly bus but I know a load of ppl who have them and they rarely go wrong, are cheap to buy, run and maintain...

Pains me to say this, but Jap/Korean 4wd's are very very good on the whole Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I have to be fair, I have a mate with an XC60 D5 and it's very nice. He's done 110k in it and 25k of that towing an event trailer through muddy fields across the UK.....he's really impressed and is awaiting the new XC90.....he also has an XC70 D5 with 240k on the clock and it never fails....he advised an XC90....the limp now suits him Rolling with laughter Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

Bizarrely there is a MPG thread running on the FL2 forum where one chap is excited about getting 31 mpg on a good run in a TD4 auto, My TD6 does high 20's on a run. The reasons for down sizing were to save a bit of fuel and get better reliability but looking at some of the faults including the epidemic of diff failures and with fuel coming down I wonder if the best choice is a FF! Thumbs Up Mine was a blue one! Smile

All depends on the requirements. If you dont go offroad, tow or need a big bus and want to save fuel...get a car !

Friend at JLR runs Ford Kuga 4WD and it's very adequate for his needs...wont win any hearts but it's as comfy as a FL and a lot less cost Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I can speak from experience as I run a Santa Fe alongside the FF.

Comparison to a Terracan Tincan is not really fair, it's a very old design and there are so few of them about, it's not mainstream and consequently parts are going to be expensive.

The Santa Fe just doesn't go wrong, the rear seats are much more comfortable than the FF, they recline backwards, forwards, under floor storage in the boot and as a family car we don't get any of the travel sickness problems that the FF seems to bring on.

I bought the Santa Fe at 90k miles, now on 116 and NOTHING has gone wrong (the same cannot be said of the FF where the costs are laughable........) I can honestly say that it's a much better family car "package" than the FF will ever be - I wouldn't regard it as downsizing at all! 2006 4.2 SC
