Morning out at the snow some with son and heir. His first lesson at the age of 9, looked pretty good on a snowboard to be honest, didn't fall down too much either. Ready for stage two already😁

Managed to get in an hour of skiing at the same time😁 which although wasn't at full speed it was good to have at least a bit of a go.

Looking forward to blowing the cobwebs out in a month or so on proper mountains more than 100m long.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Looking to get some new ski's. Been persuaded my 10 year old boots and ski's are over due their retirement.

Wondering what to get and have no idea about ski technology these days. I keep hearing 'all mountain'.

As per the what car to take thread..... Off to Les Arcs in a couple of weeks😁😁😁😁😁

Throwing the family at a week of Morning lessons, they should be half decent by the time they come home😜

David, all mountain skis are a do it all type of ski, pretty good for alround skiing on piste, they are generally a mix between a piste ski, a carving ski with a tiny bit of powder ability built in.

To be honest I had the ability to swap and change between good rental skis in whistler a few years back, the all mountain skis were not much cop in powder but were great on piste and for a bit of other carving, they were however rubbish in powder as they have quite a large side cut on them, where as a proper powder ski is wider overall. If piste skiing is all you are doing then they will do the job nicely. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I'll have a think about it because I wanted to do a bit of off pisting. How about Free Ride - they're a little more extreme aren't they?

Have fun on your hols by the way - pics would be great!

I upgraded my boots and skis 2 years ago and was astonished at the difference. Most good ski shops will let you take a pair on trial for a morning, swap them at lunch time and keep doing it till you find a pair that are suitable for you. If at the end of the holiday you still haven't found a pair that you trust you just pay a hire charge.
I think trying to find skis that do both is like trying to find a car to replace your FF and your VX in one.
Booked to be back in Zurs at the end of Feb, should be more snow than when we were there before Christmas. letters not necessarily in the right order

I had to give up skiing many years ago (knee problems like many on here; I now have a metal knee), but I still love being in the mountains – for the atmosphere … and an excuse to eat and drink far too much.
I now live just a bit inland from the French Riviera and I’m off to the ski resort of Auron for a quick visit (4 days) next week – it’s only about 140km and 2h30 from home. There’s not a mass of snow at the moment but enough and more is supposed to be on the way. Thumbs Up
While there, I’m hoping to try a bit of snowmobile and raquettes.
Anyway, this will be the first time this particular FF has seen serious snow, so I’m looking forward to it! It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

Yes, it's delightful to be in the mountains even if you're not skiing.

If you're going on a snowmobile, firstly don't crash. If you do crash try and crash at the bottom of the slope so you don't slide all the way to the bottom. And if you do slide all the way to the bottom, try and avoid the falling snowmobile. These people made some of those mistakes.

Lovely part of the world you live in bebechoon. Thumbs Up

Thanks, Kurt.
Your area looks nice too, although I can’t say I know it. Looks nice on the map (but why can’t I view it in StreetView???)
Switzerland is/was always a favourite. I’ve skied in Laax/Flimsand and A N Other (my memory’s gone Sad Sad ) and also just over the border in the Portes du Soleil area – Torgon, Les Crosets & Morgins. Happy memories! It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
