TDV8 Turbo Issues

I have been reading about all the turbo failures in the TDV8's from what I can see on the forum the EGR is to blame......I was talking to a rangie mechanic today about turbo failures and he reckons all the failures he's seen here in Oz have been down to the top intercooler hoses failing
losing pressure and the turbo speeds up to compensate and basically spins its self to death

What are your thoughts..............he reckons the hoses should be a service item as they can fail at any time once they get a bit of age on them

My turbo failed went without the top houses ever failing.
The turbo failed 2,500 miles after both of the EGRs were replaced by a main dealer. They were replaced immediately the error appeared, are the 2 failures directly linked???

Not according to Warranty Direct who refused the turbo claim stating that it was due to simple wear and tear.....

What would the difference in cost be between replacing both EGRs compared to both EGRs and both turbos? A lot, I imagine?

I just had both top intercooler hoses replaced at 120,000mls whilst the FFRR was in for an Inspection 1 service, along with other fluids - the parts cost £67.00, well worth doing if not just to avoid being stranded at some point.

How many turbos have you replaced that have not had EGR issues?

Ok so intercooler hoses as a service item (reduce risk)

Cam-Tech any thoughts on why the turbos fail After replacing the EGR

So are there any pre-emptive measures you can take with the EGR to minimize possible Turbo failure

Have a read through this thread here: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic26886.html

I still maintain there is no link between a faulty EGR valve and a blown turbo

Thumbs Up

NONE! BUT that said... We only specialise in FF's so, very rarely see any Sport models which suffer differently as have different turbo's... Rolling Eyes

I have done 2 pairs of turbos on FFRR's, one of which had not had any EGR issues since new, and the other had a single valve done 30k miles previous.

I still fail to see the link between the two

Let me clarify... That was NONE on FF's that have not had EGR issues... compared to upwards of a dozen in the last 24 months that have Mikey! And MOST of the EGR's were not done here!
