I'm going to see about getting an external power socket on for that to make it easier. I also need to get the tow socket replace as it melted when I connected it to my caravan - now I think about it I wonder if that has caused a short??? |

Does it have the towing sockets fitted? If so they are the easiest solution and can be setup in such a way that you can drive off and he connection just pops off FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

The ones you need to tap into iirc are the always on + and ground connections or sometimes called direct battery feed.

Same here Fish but my flat battery was in the XM I wanted to use this morning. When it was slow cranking i just went back inside and pushed the ON button for the ff and had a drink and sorted some bits out before going out to a warmed and defrosted car 10mins later 😄😄 FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Battery has been tested and showing good and the alternator is putting a charge in. Im going to check it each morning before I start to see what voltage is in it and if it is dropping then go from there. |

I checked the battery this morning before I started up and it was reading 11.9v. I did the short trip to work, 3 miles, and check it again and it was 12.2v. I'm going to keep an eye on it but also get one of those battery monitor gadgets that plug in to the 12v socket to see of anything is happening. This morning I read through the very long thread of ibartsimpson who had a very bad battery issue and there was a lot of useful tips and advice in that. |

As you have had trouble with the towbar electrics I'd be inclined to un-plug the the towbar electrics and see what happens over a few days. I would be concerned the socket melting may well have caused a partial / intermittent short to earth sufficient to cause a current drain. |
