Sorry mate, the one on my 4.2 was always double push to get it working. It sounds like the mechanism is broken and I bet you can find out on Topix how to disassemble it and replace it (Duckworth Dan should have one for you).
It is a nice mechanism (push inwards and it comes down gently and push back up/in to close), if it works but I guess people try to pull it down and break it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
