Changed the oil on the 6hp26 in my tdv8 and was smoother once done. Did it at about 60,000 hasnt caused me any problems am now on 72k. Also did the diff oils at the same time, it is a fairly special/uncommon oil for the diffs and can be tricky to get hold of the exact stuff so got mine from Dan at duckworths. But as Pete said it only takes a small amount.

Don't leave your gearbox oil too long. ZF recommend chagning it between 50-75k, depending on use. Ignore the LR interval of 150k

How do I find out the level I need to fill the diffs to ? Can't find any diy guides on this. And if I could find a decent guide I would be happy to do the diffs myself . 6hp26 is recommended for change by ZF at 60,000 if heavily used/towing and 100k for standard use afaik so 60k-70k is an ideal time to swap the oil out.

That is worryingly cheap for the diffs & transfer box! Beware... Would cost more than that just for the correct oil from Dan... |

I thought so myself. Funny thing is they charge the going rate for the transmission service ? Quote was from Monarch Garage Glasgow, local land rover specialist. Seemed to know their stuff . Anyone had any dealings with them ??? Range Rover Vogue 2006 4.4 AJV8 | Buckingham Blue | Parchment Leather | Supercharged Grill+Side Vents | CA02 HEY ( NOT 02 PLATE ) |

Called alpine transmissions today to price the diffs and transfer box. they said that they would need to price the oil but they knew it was specific stuff thats needed, said it would be around £230 - £250. He had a quick look for the oils while i was on the phone and told me that the transfer box oil was £40 a litre because the car has the terrain response system, i told him that my car does not have this and is still the older interior setup but he said that its telling him that its the same oil that must be used. does this sound right ?

Using the info in the Wiki the correct oil for your transfer box as supplied by either Castrol or LR is no more than £15 per litre.

The usual procedure is to keep pouring the new oil on thro the fill hole until it can't take any more and it starts to drain out, then you put the plug back in.
