Had my steering wheel retimmmed and just fitted..

Hi, thought id share this with you guys as i am really pleased with it.

My steering wheel was letting my interior down as it had gone shiny as per normal. So decided to get it retrimmed, i used a guy called Jack at Royal steering wheels as he did a wheel for my Bmw M3 before and his quality of work is excellent.

I had the wheel recovered in smooth nappa leather top and bottom and perforated on the sides, i thought this would look good as mine being an SE model has the perforated seats so would match. I also had the rim made slightly thicker as felt the original wheel was a little thin.

I purchased another worn steering wheel off ebay as needed to use my car most days and didn't want to be without it. Jack does them on an exchange basis however so i didn't actually need to do this.

I simply sent mine wheel away to Jack and within a week or so it was back, excellent service and he kept me updated via email. The price was very reasonable to, not sure if im allowed to put phone numbers up here but if you google 'royal steering wheels' he will come up.

I repainted the spokes with some Plastidip rubber spray paint which is a good match for the oem finish used.

Old shiny steering wheel

Nice new retrimmed one

Fitted Thumbs Up

Sure it was £120 which I thought was a bargain, they can also do many colours, different types of leather, alcantara etc. Obviously price could be higher depending on what you wanted.

Nice job on the leather, looks really good Thumbs Up

I noticed you've got the heated wheel, can they put a new element in when they retrim the wheel?
My steering wheel has gone grubby and the heating element doesn't work fully, would be interested in getting a retrim similar to yours (like the chunky look and feel of your wheel),but would like to get the heated wheel element replaced as well.

Really does look the part.

I'd be intrigued to know if the extra thickness of it affects the effectiveness of the heating side of it though, what with it having more material for the heat to find its way through...?

It does look good, although my preference would be to put the silver spokes on as I think it really enhances things even more.

Like others have said, I'd be interested to know how the heating works with the thicker rim.

I had the thicker nappa on my old '02 (from Powerful) and liked it a lot, but on my SC, strangely, I much prefer the standard rim. That said, the Overfinch rim that Craig has on his new FF is a rather gorgeous item. Si. <This is my name.
