@CharlesA22, I am wondering if your dealer had any success addressing the problem with the fumes?

The UK seems to have good consumer protection laws. Do you have anything like the California Lemon Law? The dealer gets three tries to fix a given fault on a new car. After that, the customer can make him take back the car. It's then branded as a "lemon" in any further sale. That gives the dealer a rather big incentive to fix it properly the FIRST TIME! |

Disappointed to report that the local dealer, who had the car for a week whilst I was out of the country, has failed to find any fault. Advised by receptionist that the only relevant technical bulletin they could find was the one relating to Petrol cars and deemed not relevant to my Diesel car. Technician not available to challenge when I collected car. Maybe they'll fix it on the 11th Warranty visit sometime soon!!! FFRR user since 1974. RR No. 10 (2021MY P525 AB delivered Nov 2020) Gone. I was wondering if anyone has finally got to the bottom of this. I have a 63 plate 4.4SDV8 Autobiography and since the weather has got a little colder the smell has started to find its way into the interior of the car. One small journey resulted in the car filling with a grey fog. I am now finding its making me lose my voice as the fumes are really quite excessive. It reminds me of the smell you get in a jet airliner on the ground but stronger. It has been back to check it had the software update to reduce the amount the FBH fires, that was upto date and has had the extended exhaust pipe fitted but again that's not resolved it. All this without using the cabin pre heat function, but if I did then when you get into the car its stinks. Not on for a £100k motor car. I have had 12 plus Rangies over the years, but in spite of all the problems, they have never tried to poison me until now. Land Rover really know how to treat their customers! I have been back onto customer services who are getting the car back to my local dealer and providing technical support to the dealer to ensure they resolve it. Cannot see how they can if its a design fault which it seems to me it probably is. 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)

According the the WM, "In order to minimize the potential for odor ingress from the FFBH, the ATCM will automatically close the recirculation door in the climate control assembly for the first 7 minutes of FFBH operation when activated by the timed climate control feature." |

thanks for this. But is this what is programmed to happen , or is this an update? the dealer was asking me whether I had the recirculation button pressed when starting the car in cold weather but I rather suggested that I should not have to think about that. I have had two calls from LR today which I missed so maybe they have something to offer me as a solution. 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)

In reply to vanquishspirit, I too believe this to be a fundamental failure of design and an inadequate test regime that failed to reflect normal use of the vehicle in cool, even if not cold, conditions. The reference to the WM content from CubaLibre is interesting, but in that it specifically relates to the Timed Climate Control feature it is not relevant to this issue. The defect of design relates to the relocation of the FBH from its forward positions on previous models (L322, Disco etc.,) to a position closer to the passenger cabin and ventilation air intakes. The FBH does not require any manual (remote) or timed input to generate the fumes, although these too will cause the problem albeit self-inflicted by the user. All that is necessary to inflict the problem is a cool temperature start with some extended manoeuvring such as toing and froing to exit a tight parking space. A standard feature for us city dwellers. No doubt the LR test team performed multiple cold starts in many conditions which automatically fired the FBH, but if they then accelerated off into the sunset the problem would simply be whisked away by the airflow.
