Whistling followed by "Engine at reducued output warnin

Hi guys.

I've had my 2006 4,2SC a couple of months now and think it's fantastic.

When I viewed the car, I noticed that on hard acceleration there was (and still is) a whooshing sound coming from the front O/S area. Also when pushed hard, the car picks up nicely, but will gasp for breath towards the upper rev limits. It does run beautifully though.

I did ask the seller if the noise was normal and he said "Yes, it has always been like that (he only owned for a couple of months and had to sell - genuine reason and I believe him) but he did mention that the garage where he bought the car (not a LR dealership or specialist) had damaged/bent the pipe to the air filter box when servicing the car before handover.

Today, I started the car and it made a whistling sound (like a pipe sound, not a squeak) until it was up to speed 4-5 minutes after take off. Then 20 minutes later I got the warning "Engine Operating at Reduced Power".

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

First thing I would check is the supercharged coolant pump. This will give this message and if not already rectified yours is probably still running backwards there's quite a bit on here about it if you do a search. The difference between theory and reality is that in theory it will work.

Check the obvious things like broken/ill fitting pipework... Even the smallest of air leak will upset it...

It doesn't have a FBH does it? A rare option on an SC but is a possibility sir... Thumbs Up

FBH = Fuel Burning Heater.

It's an auxiliary heater you can program to heat the cabin at a preset time or via an additional remote fob.

If you have it, you will find Aux Heater setting on the screen menu somewhere

Thanks, Craig. I did see that in the manual but don't know if I have it. I'll check, but hopefully it's not there - enough fuel burning going on as it is! Embarassed Rolling with laughter

I suggest to have a good look at the pipe work from air filter to supercharger. Craig is correct, any leak after the MAF (mounted just after the air filter) will upset the air/fuel mixture ratio and the lambda sensors will pick up the exhaust not being correct. The ECU will try to adjust but can't get it right with fuel trim and it can throw a fault. HOWEVER, normally that is the Engine Management Light, although I have had both on my 2006 until I updated the ECU software (and solved the gearbox solenoid issue as well) and haven't had problems after that till we left Nigeria.

So bottomline, try to get your ECUs updated, check the air ducting and coolant pump wiring first and you may find that all will be well after that Smile. Oh and check spark plug replacement as well maybe Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
