I much prefer the original understated look but the fact it is stainless and pretty well made makes it a difficult decision to make. Looks = crap. Longevity = excellent!

If I only approach the car from the front then it's fine

When I bought the car I wondered why the tail pipes had been left to go black so I gave them a damn good polish. They stood out like a sore !! I've let them go black again and don't stand out half as much.

I apologise to the FFRR gods for my crime

Or cut the huge cast alloy ends off and replace them with tidy stainless tips that point downwards

It's going in shortly for a service & will get alignment done at the same time.
Mind you, all Pirellis were worn evenly across with no feathered edges etc. The only uneven wear was on the front tyre with the wire sticking out through the 5mm of tread. This was due, in the main, to it going down whilst driving and damaging the point where the tread and the wall meet (both sides).

I suppose I'm glad the NSF tyre did go down - this was the kick up the bum to get them changed. Otherwise who knows how long the delaminating OSR would have lasted.

I'd would have stuck with Pirellis TBH we have no end of issues with Hancooks at work admittedly in a 17" size but each to their own

A consideration with this brand is availability often we struggle to locate especially if the car is away from base

Supply is a problem - I've ordered spares to keep on the shelf just in case.

I switched from Pirellis as they didn't offer one for the 22" rim with a load rating greater than 106 which is way too low and probably explains why they always looked flat

The up-side of the Hankooks, purely by accident, was that when I finally found and ordered them they came in at £140 delivered per corner

As you say there, the 305 section does well and truly fill the guards out. How do they go for clearance on full lock? No rubbing I take it. Are the OF wheel normal offset and width?

Which Hankook tyre model were they?

Keen to hear your feedback to this.

@crispy2 - They are Hankook Ventus ST RH06 305/40R22 114V XL. I can't help you with the offset on the OF wheels I'm afraid but they are genuine 22" Tigers so the info may be out there.

Before fitting them I heated the OS rear arch liner with a heat gun where it houses the fuel fill pipe and gained a good 10mm more clearance - not sure whether it was needed but did it anyway. I also fitted 5mm spacers to the rear - this and the arch liner mod were all recommended in another thread on here. Now I've got them fitted I can see there is no need for the spacers so when the wheels come off again so will the spacers.

As an update I can highly recommend them - they are that good even SWMBO has even commented how much better the FF feels to drive. Really positive cornering compared to the Pirellis, smoother ride and way less aquaplaning!! I know the cornering is probably down the the 114 rating and the smoother ride is the extra sidewall - any tyre of the same rating, not just Hankooks, would probably give similar results. However, there ability in standing water is impressive.

I've done a couple of very steep knarly tracks with them whilst towing 3+te and the grip was fine - absolutely no dramas at all.

You need to see them in the flesh - I must get some better pics - they are 2'5" diameter as well as being over a foot wide (305 profile) and look huge before they're fitted. Once on they look totally at home.
