problems after replacing battery - L322 V8 2003

Hi - my battery died suddenly last weekend and I had to have it replaced at a tyre centre.

I now have the following issues:

- no remote central locking
- no windscreen wipers

The remote boot release still works.

It is possible there are other issues that I haven't noticed yet..... but the car starts and drives ok which is why I didn't notice the problems straight away.

Any suggestions re what might have happened or possible fixes? I have tried disconnecting the battery again and leaving 5 mins before reconnecting but made no différence. Relevant fuses seem ok.



Any help very gratefully received.....

Your windscreen wiper relay is in a box behind the battery. Anything disturbed while they changed the battery?

Did they put bonnet in service position to allow easy access to change the battery if not it is awkward to get to it. Howard

Hi Stan - yes that would be the best thing to do but it is going to be hard to get back there, so would rather fix myself if it is something simple.

Thanks for the tip about the wiper relay, will check that zone to see if it looks like anything has been disturbed.

ah, in that case then i would firstly do a battery disconnection as per the 'how to' in the wiki, sometimes this resets everything.. ... - .- -.

Just a quick update - I have tried removing and replacing the battery as per the Wiki, also checked behind the battery and there is no sign of any damage or disturbance there, took the cover off and all seems fine inside (where the wiper relay is).

So I am really none the wiser...... any suggestions re what to look at next gratefully received.

For example: is anybody able to look at a wiring diagram for me and see if the wipers and central locking have any wires or connections in common......? Or point me to where I might find a wiring diagram (I am usually fine with wiring diagrams but hate to think how complex it is for the L322!!)?

Try a diagnostic on the bcu, looks like it has gone into transportation mode.
Ours wouldn't work with the central locking, central locking wouldn't work with the key, had to lock all doors manually and the drivers door with the key. One button lock switch next to hazard light switch wouldn't work the locks. Interior lights wouldn't work. Remote release on the key worked, but not the switch in the car. Can't recall the wipers not working though.
Hopefully given you some pointers.

Thanks for the help everybody

Had a quick look at the wiring diagram and the only common unit seems to be the BCM.

So I guess I need to get it hooked up to diagnostics.

Vaz - were you able to fix yours using the diagnostics, or did you need a new BCM?

Fearing the worst.... is the BCM tied to the vehicle (like the BECM on a P38) eg holds odometer readings etc, or can it just be swapped with one from another L322??

Anybody got a suitable diagnostic unit in South East France??

We hope you have checked the wipers' fuse, (physically) and if it's same as locking fuse? Or that one too. If you consider that it's possible to have wipers on and locking trying to actuate the moment you connect the battery, it possible a surge has happened.

Hi Jerry. Hope the reply is not too late, I have just been home for a couple of days after being in hospital.
It is fixable via the diagnostics, IID tool, RSW unit, Faultmate, or Autologic will fix it. I had mine done with a local garage that had the Autologic.
Not sure if it is tied to one vehicle like the P38 setup. A new one will need re-programming to your vehicle though.
Is there no Land Rover or an independent near to where you are who can sort it?

Thanks Steve that is really helpful. Fingers crossed it is the BCU, and that it can be reset.....

So after getting on for two year's relatively trouble free motoring it seems like it might be time to buy a diagnostic tool (I had one for my P38). Time to do some searching on here and learn about their relative pros and cons!

Defiantly fixable with diagnostics if it is the BCU.
I am in the same position as you, deciding which diagnostics to go for.
I have decided to go for the Gap IID Bluetooth unit (when funds permit) as it can be used with an iPhone which I have and you don't need a laptop with you, especially on long distance travels.
It seems to be the most cost effective unit out of all the diagnostic equipment, together with good support and customer service. 1968 Series IIA Pastel Green, nearly there project

Finally had time to try the IID tool and hooray - disabling transport mode on the BCU worked so problem now solved.

Huge thank you to everybody for your help especially Vaz who correctly diagnosed the problem.
