Moronic truck drivers

Warning, rant ahead Whistle

So my commute home, some 108 miles of M40, M42 and some A roads, got delayed by 2 trucks "elephant racing" on a bit of the M42 where there's only 2 lanes. 7 miles it took for the w*nker to complete his overtake, and teh Tw*t being overtaken wouldn't lift his foot for a few seconds either. F&^%ing tossers, all of them. The queue building up behind was as far back as I could see, with miles of clear road in front of them. Absolutely zero consideration for anyone else at all.

Just trying to figure out how to do one of those online petition things to get these idiots banned from using the outside lane of any motorway or dual carriageway. It's high time they were regulated since it is 100% clear they won't drive responsibly without it.

And breathe................. Thumbs Up

You should be glad you don't live up here in Cumbria, where we don't have the luxury of much in the way of motorways or dual carriageways. We end up getting stuck behind wagons doing 40mph, with little to no chance of overtaking at all. I do a 55 mile commute each way to work and back every day and if I get stuck behind the slow wagons, it puts an extra 15 to 20 minutes on my drive. Not to mention the tailbacks it causes, and I won't even start on some of the Censored kamikaze drivers who risk everyone's lives by trying to overtake not only the half dozen vehicles in front of them, but also the wagons!!

To be fair I've recently passed my class 2 test. Today I had to take a lorry from Essex to Lincoln and back. There was next to no load on the lorry.
Personally I found the main issue is the 56mph restriction yes there are some dicks about that will sit side by side for x miles and I feel the same as you.
But speaking for myself (who does ease off to let another truck get past and pull in) it is so frustrating. The truck I drove was small engine and empty, so you fly up behind other lorries and go to overtake, you then hit a hill where the small engine struggles to hit the 56 and the loaded large engine lorry pulls strong to 56 and there's no way to overtake. So you find yourself stuck side by side. As I say I drive trucks rarely so I'm happy to either ease off and drop behind, or ease off and let one past, but I did experience the frustration some everyday truck drivers must face. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

In Germany they can't overtake on 2 lane motorways! Makes sense to me... Whistle

Haha. I'm pretty new to driving lorries, but can see how the limiters cause a lot of issues.
I'm sure there is a lot of pros with safety and road wear so I'm not getting into that, but imagine if every car was physically limited to 70mph. We would no doubt have the same issue as I'm sure there are just as many car drivers that would be happy enough to sit 3 a breast on motorway @70 mph!

Please don't think I'm saying 2 HGVs drivers sitting side by side for miles arnt dicks, but by limiting them all to 56mph I don't think has helped. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

Limiters have predominantly caused the problem. What would be a better solution is to remove them and enforce the law with other deterrents such as a 1 year ban for speeding in a HGV. All it needs is to add GPS to the existing electronic tacho and you have all 3 pieces of information needed to exact a conviction, i.e. Speed, person driving and location. More to the point it would get picked up at every tacho card scan.

But for the sake of safety they should not be in the outside land of any motorway or dual carriageway.

Unnecessary quote removed

I commute from Windsor area to Evesham and must have seen them going the other way it happens a lot on the m40 for some reason drives me nuts but then there is always someone in a car doing 60 in the outside lane passing them when I get there

As per the op bloody morons usually just driving on the limiter.
Get it every morning on my commute up the A54 to Buxton the road is to narrow and some of the bends to tight for a HGV but the idiots still drive up there at 10 mph on the hills they can't climb with a que of cars behind the drivers of which end up taking unnecessary risks to pass putting everyone in danger. Not seen one pull up yet to let the cars past. Censored There is one Bargain Booze truck thats a regular who seems to deliberately drive wide to stop people passing.
Rant over but blood now boiling! Mine was a blue one! Smile

40mph on an A road you have to have sympathy for - that's the speed limit for them, so not much they can do.

The slow overtake does drive me nuts though

Anyone who drives a commercial vehicle without due consideration deserves a complaint to their employer.....

@Alastair
Would be good if they got to 40! Road is totally unsuitable and should have a weight limit
I have bought a mg just so I can get past a bit quicker and safer. Mine was a blue one! Smile

Looking at the government's e-petition site it seems there is already one going, just that it's not be socialised at all. It took some finding but I was checking to ensure I wasn't about to create a duplicate.

Anyway, it's here if anyone fancies signing it. Might be worth socialising it too if you're on FB or Twitter etc.

As an hgv driver for the last 38 years it would be more useful signing
a petition against the school run as this causes a lot more holdups.
I have also lost count of the amount of idiot car drivers who must
race to get in front of me only to slow to well below the speed limit
once there. The main thing to remember before giving hgv drivers
loads of grief, is you would not have any food to eat or still be using
your fingers to clean yourselves if it wasn't for us as almost everything you
use comes by road. My rant over.
Dave.
