Scotland 2006 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Buckingham Blue

New on here but not bought a ffrr yet. have been unsure for a long while but finally decide to sell my BMW and pick up a nice l322 4.4 v8. My main concern is the gearbox worries ! and I'm thinking i may be better saving up an extra few thousand incase the gearbox does go bang. If the gearbox was bad would there be any signs/symptoms of trouble before it completely totalled ? i would be spending around 8- 9 k 2003-2005.

Prospective owner

Hi all,
I've always loved Range Rovers and am finally in a position to buy one.
I've been looking on here for advice and buying guides and am quite impressed by the amount of information available.
I have a maximum budget of £10,000 but was hoping to spend around the £7-£8K mark, leaving myself a little spare for any work that may need doing.
I am leaning towards the petrol rather than diesel.
If anyone knows of any near me (S/E London or kent) I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
Rav

Hoping to join the owners soon

Thought I should say hello after doing various bits of reading on hear and seeing how useful and friendly it is!

I'm hopefully going to become a first time buyer and currently trying to decide whether to go for
1) 4.2S - what the heart would go for as big V8 fan and previous buyer of daft uneconomical vehicles when more sensible ones exist!
2) 3.6TDV8 - what the head should go for if definitely going FFRR
3) Discovery - what the 'sensible family man with two big dogs and loads of rugby kit' would go for.

About time too!

Hi All,

I have been visiting this forum for the last six months, so I thought it was about time I actually said "hello" at last! Sorry it has taken me so long.

The main reason I originally joined was to get an impression of what it might be like to own and run a FF and have found the forum, both then and since, incredibly useful to that end. Consequently, I thought it might be useful to others to catalogue a little bit of my life with my FF over the last six months.

I had previously owned six Range Rover Classics (2 door and four door) over about 22 years, including one of the original Vogues when they truly were a special edition with a hamper basket and ice box strapped in the boot Smile I have not had one for the last ten years or so but decided to come back with this current one.

I bought my MY2007 TDV8 Vogue SE from a member (SAppie) in May and have done 10k miles since. I obviously liked the car but also felt that I could see a little bit more of its' history via SAppie's forum contributions rather than just via documentation.

I decided to buy a Warranty Direct policy as added insurance and signed up for a Nationwide FlexPlus joint a/c to get UK and European breakdown cover for it and also my wife's car, along with worldwide travel insurance for the both of us. I also moved our car insurance there as well.

I added a Ctek battery charger (MXS 10) after reading the forum and after the car did not start on two occasions because of a low battery after I had spent time either doing things in the car without the engine running and/or using the battery to run a portable air compressor (T-Max Adventurer). Otherwise, I have left the car for a few days with no issues.

I have also added Thule roof rack fittings (already had bars and box), a Mottez 4-bike tow bar carrier and a 3 ton trolley jack with 6 ton axle stands from SGS Engineering.

I recently had the car serviced at a main dealer after 15k from the last service even though I had had no service message appear. I have done 10k miles with a lot of motorway miles including a very recent 5-day trip to Berlin and back with a stop off en route at ZF in Dortmund for a full flush and gearbox service. I calculate I am averaging about 27/8 mpg although the OBC consistently insists that it is 30ish+.

I have had the discs and pads on the rears replaced at an independent and will do the fronts in the new year sometime.
I have replaced the front wiper blades with Bosch 808s and fitted a set of Vrederstein winter tyres onto the standard 20" wheels (I also have a spare set of 20" wheels and Conti tyres that came with the car which I'll use for summer.

My personal experience with this FF is that I have been absolutely delighted with the car - it is a real pleasure to drive and apart from the two failed starts (fortunately, easily resolved with a jump start) the car has performed flawlessly - even at 95mph on the autobahns.

One can never say owning a RR is cheap as, even without issues consumable parts are relatively expensive, and owning any premium car also has its' risks. Basically, when buying any car, one needs to be "lucky" or, perhaps, not "unlucky" would be nearer the truth. I feel I have been "lucky" with this car, to-date at least, and have tried to protect myself against potential failures by both insurance and a little pre-emptive maintenance.

I guess my basic view is that the pleasure, for me at least, is as great, if not greater, than spending/wasting my money on any other form of self-amusement/entertainment/practical necessity.

Jack

PS. Sorry for the long first (actually second) post Smile

J

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Rimini Red

Martin Hi

Your DISCO3 site is excellent, found many useful pointers but have finally had to let go of my Disco after so many problems, the day I picked it up from a dealer (previous owner sold it as could not afford to replace the turbo and it was at a dealer) I mentioned I had sold my Vogue 4.4 petrol and he commented that the D3 / Sport is constantly in whilst the Range Rover they rarely see, how true that was. Had my Vogue for 5 years from 30k up to almost a 100k miles and excellent.

Just put a deposit on a 2008 V8 Diesel with 52k miles and am looking forward to getting back in it. It is a dealer car with a warranty and a full dealer history but really do not know what to look out for on this one, from reading a few notes it seems the turbos are the weak point. Any problems on the suspension as with D3, any pointers or things I need to ensure the dealer does or any software mods I need to be aware of, your assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you

New member

Hi all.
New on here. I've had a couple of V8 P38's and then went Discovery route. I've also got a 92 110 Defender had since new. Disco 3 now swapped for a 2008 L322 Vogue. Usual issues but hopefully I'll get answers here.
