I'm having this problem too in my 2002 petrol L322 4.4L. I set off for a 25 mile journey and my petrol gauge was on a quarter. When I started for home the needle went up to half. I called in at my Shell garage and put £100 of V-Power in the tank (76 litres). So the tank must have had about 22 litres left when I filled up (about a quarter of a tank). After filling the needle remained on quarter full and the figure displayed for 'Range' on the screen also stayed at 178 miles.

Did anyone find a fix for this?

New pump and sender is pretty much the only way. There is a how to in the wiki I think for the earlier cars, basically same as changing the im tank fuel pump.

http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic16152.html

Pretty much same procedure except not replacing the pump inside the housing. This shows one side, there is then a cross over pump under the other hatch with a float on too.

I think on the earlier cars each side is available separately, so best to test the rheostats on the floats to determine which has gone. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

OK... there is a TSB about this issue (more so on later FF's but covers all the age range)

So, in short... There are two pumps in the tank (one each side) they read an average reading from the two pumps. The secondary electrical plug (blue) inside the tank fails to read one pump so reads an average of "one side" empty & "the other side" with fuel giving a reading between a 1/4 to 3/4's... Not full or empty...

The resolve is to cut the faulty blue plug off and solder the wires together... Removing the dodgy blue plug from the equation permanently... Thumbs Up

So, worth checking this resolve before replacing your expensive pumps!

PLEASE DONT FORGET... SAFETY FIRST GUYS!!! Fuel & soldering don't go together!!! Bow down Embarassed Bow down
