Evil time has come to replace the rear no brand crap rubber - night drive across Cornwall in the rain was a bit squirrely last night. Local tyre place in Falmouth has given a price of £165 for Pirellis Scorpions or £169 + £50 rebate card for Michelin Lattitudes. Prices are each, fitted inc. VAT.

Whats the group opinion?

My current stuff are 255/55/R19 - does that sound about right?

IMO, Pirelli Scorpions are the best tyre money can buy for normal, every day use in the UK that you can put on a FFRR.

Michelin Latitudes or Continental Cross Contacts are a close second.

Goodyear wranglers on mine. Never had an issue, neither for 4 years with them on my Disco 2.

I've got pirellis' on the front and general grabber at's on the rear, which are fab! I'd stick with the pirelli if its only ever going to see tarmac, I've always found the michelin a bit nervous in the wet, but they do last! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Got lattitudes on the ffrr, and they do last well, and hve been fine in terms of wet and dry handling, have wranglers on the disco, also good! And scorps on the disco 18" which are also fine tyres. Personally think the scorps edge it, but the wranglers are rated well over on disco4.

Pays your money takes your choice. what is on the front? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

IMHO you should never mix rubber - same tyres all round.

Not exactly correct there bud, don't mix crossply and radial tires, and having the same make on the axle helps, and obviously the same size. Which in the case of a FFRR, being a full time 4x4, all the tires must be the same size all round.  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

sometimes its not practical or affordable to have all the same , certainly roughly the same depths and same makes on each axle is advised.. ... - .- -.

I think Alistair is trying to point out that as you need to run all the same sized tyres on a FF, running Grabbers only on one axle could mean (as the treat is deeper) a larger rolling circumference on one axle than the other...

I certainly would not run a completely different type of tyre on one axle of my FF!

If the tires are within 5mm of each other you will not suffer any ill effects, it not a vauxhall 4x4 Turbo (everything within 2mm). Otherwise you'd have to change all the tires every time you got an un-repairable puncture, that would make things very expencive.

The General AT's aren't a very aggressive tyre with super deep tread, the AT2 however is. And if I were to fit something like the Cooper STT's that are on my Jeep (the real thing, not a miss quote), I'd have to fit the same all round, they're over 20mm of tread!

Im also getting a little more picky about tyres as i get older/can afford not to put spandex radials on my cars.

wouldn't go as far as to swap the whole set if just one axle was worn but will not go below 3mm, and would always try to have the same tyre on all 4 corners where ever possible.

Im good for a little while in the ff as these michelins seem to be pretty much indestructable in terms of tread wear. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
