Future Classic ?

I visited a classic car auction last week, really opened my eyes... I hadn't realised how much the old cars from when I was young were going up in price. Things i used to have, like Mk2 Escorts & Capris (a capri 2.8 went for over £18k Shocked )

Got me thinking.... What should I be buying now if I was spending say, up to £10k. What's going to go up next ??

I thought maybe SL500, 928 S4 or Cosworth Saphire.

Any thoughts Whistle

Still not seeing Cosworths going up very much still! Have watched them for years and there seams to be such a diverse amount of cars out there that nice ones get lost in the crowd... 10 years ago You could pick up a good 3 door for £10K today you still can Rolling Eyes so... Not gaining much at all Rolling Eyes

I just wish I had my 2 door Classic, have you seen how much a really good one fetches Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Hard to predict, but performance icons of each decade are the real soarers, depending on rarity. 80s icons now stratospheric.

Ones to watch on that basis:
Early Impreza WRX (if you can find an unmolested one)
Honda NSX (already getting expensive though)
Launch-spec MX5
Early Elise
BMW Z3 M Coupe
Volvo 850R Wagon
Aston Virage
TVR Cerbera
Jaguar X308 XJR

Other predicted risers for dissociated reasons:
Range Rover Classic LSE or Softdash (still plenty of cash in them)
Mercedes W124 Cabrio
Jaguar XJ Coupe
Mercedes SL55 AMG
Smart examples of any E30 Coupe or Cabrio... 325i or 318is in particular.

The NSX would be my choice.


A certain drivers one keeps popping up for sale at VERY strong money but others are holding well and boy do they sound nice rattling down the street! there is one in wilmslow and i see it every now and again but the guy looks like he has had it since new! drives it very gently...

How about going oddball, a Citroen CX GTi Turbo kept in dry storage and rust free would be worth some coin in a few years as so many are succumbing lately... DS's as well are going up in value.

The corvette will increase in value, as more come to corners and get written off Rolling with laughter
But seriously, all corvettes are a sound investment, providing that they are not accident damaged, plus they is virtually rot proof!
What about the humble Metro?
No not the thing that Granny went shopping in, The MG Metro 6R4, that was a real fire breather, eat any Ford for breakfast, and would make just about every car look slow when it comes to a drag race. (0 to 100 in 200 yards Shocked ) Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Still have mine Whistle hence why i keep an eye on the market place... imho they haven't gone up considerably in 10yrs...

Really good ones may get advertised for fortunes my friend... But the same old ones have been advertised for years in some cases!!!

I keep looking at Escort Cosworths too but as yet, they don't seem to either Rolling Eyes

I must admit that I was thinking of the refurbished Classics, I've seen them for as much as £70k Shocked Shocked Shocked
That's as near as dam it the cost of a new one! Still the thought of no ECU's is a tempting one Wink

And as for the Metro 6R4 they are changing hands for around £50k, when you can find one, that's a massive markup on the original price, and they are just the Clubman spec. When it comes to the Works spec, the figures look like the first pize in the lottery! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I'm a firm believer that original, unmolested fast Fords will always be in demand and that prices will, in time, always go up.

I have to say that, as I collected mine today. Laughing

Performance variants appear the better investment as opposed to the lesser models.

Another potential one is a Defender. My insurance broker has just upped the value on both my 110 and Series III. Si. <This is my name.

I think there are a few more to add to the list...

Audi Quattro (not up enough on the variants) - was always what I dreamed of when I had my Opel Manta in the 80's
Lancia Delta Integrale
Mark 1 (and also now 2) Golf GTI - finding one that hasn't been ruined is the challenge
W124 Merc coupes and convertibles (the estate is also much prized, and still a great workhorse)

I was a huge fan of the Group B rally era - there was nothing like the sound of a Quattro or 6R4 charging through a forest in the dead of night. Thumbs Up
