I ski at olympic level - given my handicap. I took it up in my late 30's, I'm not naturally sporty and I'm terrified of heights. This means that any decent skier would laugh at my very limited skiing ability. I can get down any piste, but getting down and skiing down aren't necessarily the same thing. It took me many years of skiing regularly to get the best of my fear of heights and even now I can still have moments of near panic, although I did get down this slope in Laax.

I'm trying to go this season but no one I know is going or can afford to go so thinking of trying to tag along with another group or making up a group of ransoms from a posting board in the local fake ski slope. I haven't been on skis or my snowboard for years now since we have been nowhere near decent snow. My board/boots/gear are sitting gathering dust. Skis I sold years ago, boots I still have. Did use my boarding gear when we went to Northern Sweden, the Ice Hotel though.

Would love to be in a place where boarding and skiing are within a few hours (like where we lived in New Zealand).

I used to live in LA for a year and every weekend I was up on Mammoth Mountain from early Saturday morning to sliding down to the car park and into the car going home.

Never been a real hardcore skier / boarder, I like to take it easy, have a coffee stop from time to time, enjoy lunch and the views but I do love the whole experience for a week or two and a few weekends every year. Wouldn't mind being in a place like Switzerland and going up almost every weekend with the girls. I bet they will love it

NO not another thing I miss Ski to instructor standard but my knee is shot as well now ( old cruciate ligament as well) I have been thinking about Japan from here as its not so much further than NZ for me and there is a lot more to choose from . 2008 MY Supercharged

Usually Ski in Austria every Xmas/New Year but may give it a miss this year and go somewhere warm....

I've never, ever skied and have always wanted to.

Like many of you, the notion of skiing in the morning, having a few coffee breaks and a lazy lunch followed by a few hours afterwards sounds truly idyllic.

Why I love to Ski - Its the freedom and amazing scenery....

Excellent Gaz. I've only skied in Austria twice - both times at St. Anton. The first time was the first time I went skiing, and the second the weather was terrible. I keep meaning to go and do more - I will this season.

We are big fans of Morzine and the Portes du Soleil area - usually go every New Year or Half Term

Great when it snows properly but a tad low otherwise.

Never skied in France.

I've only once skied in the French speaking side of Switzerland - in Verbier.
