I too have to agree with Martin. These incidents are fortunately rare and most of the time there are minimal injuries, in this case it seems very unlucky, 6" either way and he could have walked away.

As a rally marshal we have seen too many incidents in recent years where safety has been compromised and injuries or worse have occurred, but whether I go to the local Karting track or am on a rally stage Safety is always paramount 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

Here's what Sergio Perez said about it, which pretty much confirms Martin's opinion.
