I have Vreds which are pretty tollerant of warmer weather. Some people run them all year. Means you don't have to wait for the cold weather. I will probably be putting them on towards the end of this month, unless it carries on being unseasonally warm.

Really not sure what sorta winter we are in for probably just very wet so Mich Alpins on the L405 Dura trac on the defenders ,Conti Winters on the Up & Pirelli Winters on the rest

Yep I fit my own so I choose what works for me

No such luxury for me it will be the pirelli winters again but they were good last year and are a quiet tyre imho
Have two weeks overnights router changes then they will go on

PW's are better IMHO than the outgoing Snow N Ice

Agree whole heartedly had the winters put on last winter and thought they were much better

I personally only fit winters to all but one of my cars. That car is purely a summer car so as to help prevent it rusting anymore than needed in winter as there are less than 36 of them left on the road and you can only really appreciate it in the summer

i find the extra wet weather grip is worth it and getting about 20k from a front set and a bit more from the rear is fine by me and worth the expense. Yes the rubber is softer so if you say at high speeds in the summer it could be an issue but I don't bother with high speeds most of the time

I've never fitted winter Tyres to my Landy's and I live way up in the mountains of Scotland, in fact the highest village.

Pirelli Scorp Zero's are amazingly good in winter, I am stunned at how good

I once did a winter with Grabber AT2's on the Disco, erm that wasn't a good move thought it has turned into a crab as it went sideways most of the time.

Winter 2009/10 I had to dig out my ground floor windows to get light and the car was getting buried overnight, but once dug out it stomped on down the hill and back up again on Zero's with no issues at all, even ploughed through a few 3 foot drifts. The bigger ones needed a bit of digging to allow the car through  09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts

its difficult to see but it looks like these LR's are on normal road tyres,




in this clip its interesting that the l322 did slightly better on its road tyres that the p38? on its mud&snow jobbys..

That's the level of snow I was plodding through on my Pirelli's Due to work I regularly travel home after the ploughs have stopped for the night (we rural folk don't get 24hr ploughs) and I managed to thump my way through a 3ft drift on one occasion, luckily while 3ft high not too wide (open gate by roadside let it drift) otherwise I think even with the Disco's ability I would have been bellied on it. I usually stop and dig but this one was just after a corner in crap visibility so I would have stopped on it or in it. 09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts

Interesting to read the debate. I just sold the range rover and bought an A8. Just ordered winter tyres as not sure how it will be in the cold even with quattro.

I used winter tyres on the range rover and felt far safer with them on.

As far as cost - i am selling my 18" wheels with almost new vreds and have just dropped price to £400, sorry for the obvious thread hijack but if you're interested - you can have your cake and eat it!!

It took me an hour or less to change the wheels over in october and back in March. 

I use winter tyres, 3 tonnes requires a lot of stopping and if the temp is below 7 degrees I'd like the rubber to be as much on my side as possible.

I cover about 22,000 miles a year, and wouldn't ordinarily set out if the weather is that bad, but I like knowing that if I'm caught out in poor winter conditions that I've stacked the deck in my favour for as safe a drive home as possible.

I guess we all have different opinions and risk appetites.

The winters I have on the spare FFRR wheels look pitiful though compared to the Nokians I've just put on the spare Defender wheels:

I've run grabbers at2 for two years and still 5 mill left best winter and all round tyre for me and great for playing on the chase and rural parts of Staffordshire, have to laugh when I see the odd RR stuck and disco because there running stupid low profiles in deep snow  _____________________________________________________

Heard the arguments and agree with the reasons for in terms of temperature, but still don't, and I've never been stuck or noticed much difference in terms of outright handling or stopping distances. Plus I also have a set of chains in the boot just in case. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
