It's very simple

Yes a good 4wd is great in the snow but you can't change the laws of physics turning and stopping are poo unless your equipped correctly

However cold weather tyres are really not about snow they are about the weather once you hit below 7 degrees in real terms

Very cold but dry all good tyres are fine when it's wet though the could weather tyre gives you a noticeable edge in water displacement and stopping distances

The problem really is people associate CWT with snow

Me I know the difference trained people in Geneva with BMW / Mercedes it's really funny however when the snow does come to drive the 535 past many a stuck 4wd

The choice really is individual

I understand all of that, and it maybe just where i live, but i have never had any issues on standard tyres. Ok on Swmbos car when it gets wintery, and i don't mean just snow, then they do get slightly skittery, though that has just had new tyres, so may be different again this year, but i doubt it, and there may be an argument for that to be on winters.

I have Wrangler HP All season on the Disco which were on the FF, and these are rated to a lower temperature than summer tyres and seem perfectly suited to the range of temperatures that we normally get in south derbyshire. The operating temperature range is supposed to be much lower, down to 0deg, than normal summer tyres and seemes to suit the range i normally encounter.

The FFRR has always seemed to be fine on whatever was on it, though the more i think about it i don't think i have actually run the Michelins in winter much. Last winter was mild here and we didn't get any really cold weather, the winter before the ff was on the Wranglers. I also tend to find that i drive slower when i know the temperature is dropping too, and though i agree that the laws of physics can't be beaten in terms of stopping and cornering, if you reduce one of the variables in the equation i.e. velocity then the level of retardation required is significantly lower. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
