I purchased my Range Rover TDV8 in March 2010 and it came with the remains of a 3 year service plan I believe.

It was new on 31st Jan 2008. It was serviced (Oil) in Jan 2009 at 6000 odd miles, and again (service 1) in Dec 2009 at 8000 odd miles. The mileage now is 17000.

I appreciate that the car states when a service is required, but looking on the net this appears to be every 15000 miles.

I wont get to 23000 miles by either Dec 2010 or Jan 2011.

Does anyone know if I can perhaps insist on an annual service under the plan even if the car isn't saying it is needed please?

I had mine serviced every year , as my first year i had only done 7000 miles , second year 18000 miles , and third year 26000 , The dealership told me it was up to myself if i wanted it done either 12 monthly or by mileage .....

Mine just did over 18,000 without even starting the service count down. I blinked and booked it in anyway ,the dealers weren't in the least bit concerned. 2008 MY Supercharged

Thanks guys, but you are missing the point I'm afraid.

If possible I want to get it serviced before the end of Jan 2011 as to me it will be free because it should be covered by the 3 year prepaid Service Plan.

I am trying to ascertain if the dealer will do so under the Service Plan if the car doesnt say it is needed.

I understood the service interval was 15k OR annual - whichever comes first. In other words, if you only do 5000 miles in a year then the car is still due a service at the end of the 12 months. If not, it could be 3 years between services.  The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom

JMC, that is my understanding of it as well.

The Tdv8's warn you about services. this can be at 1000 miles or 25000 miles. The main parameter is fuel comsumption, on the car's internal computers. Meaning, if you drive always at 120mph, expect service at 1000 miles. If you drive like an old lady, expect a lot more.
My dealer had a customer who made 30000kms without warnings.

Mind, the car will also warn about the yearly service. My car is booked for next week, and right now is asking for an oil service and a yearly service.

Assuming the default of 12 months applies I should be okay for a free service in December 2010.

Despite all the service indicators and instructions in manuals etc you can have your car serviced whenever you like BUT if you don't have at least an annual service or a service within 3 months of the service indicator coming on then if the car is still within warranty then you will loose the LR 3 year warranty as the car will not have been serviced WITHIN the makers recommendations(I had this hapen to me last year when a trip abroad meant being away over the 3 months period when the service would be due - the dealer serviced the car 2 months before the count down would have started).
My understanding is that regardless of the service indicator an annual service is required ie every 12 months at least an oil/filter change service is required. Our American friends often have a problem grasping that modern synthetic oils can go as long as 18-20000 miles and over on RRSport and RRNet, we often used to be asked why the car was expected to go so long on "old" oil when they had been used to a) extremely cheap oil, b) low tech engines c) car makers who worked in cahoots with the oil companies and "recommended" 3000 mile oil change intervals - many still find it difficult to break the oil changing habit even though it is unnecessary, even though it does no harm to change the oil more frequently. if the maker says that the car can go longer between changes whgy do it more often, especially in Europe where oils are so expensive. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
