If the YES campaign wants to break up the United Kingdom and destroy the union that has seen it be part of one of the worlds top places why is it clambering to be part of another union (EU) in which it will have even less say??

The average French person seems to dislike the EU, same for German peeps (lots of experience on that one ) who see it draining their mighty country and as for the Spanish etc etc well.... And yet, still, the very peeps who hate being part of a union that sees them denied power to govern as they see fit want to jump into bed with a French / German dictatorship in the making!

MachineHead - when your were on Disco3 did you look like you avatar in a younger life too?

EU - it's irrelevant as an independent Scotland won't be a member, wouldn't meet any of the economic requirements for inclusion and would find its proposed entry vetoed by Spain (and likely Belgium and France).

I don't think there are any negatives in the next paragraph and I'm very sorry if my choice of words caused offence but you must agree it is an interesting question which merits a simple reply.

The situation in Catalonia is very different so saying Spain will veto is an assumption based on opinion. There is also debate within the EU itself as to what would happen. So to try applying a categorical to that is simply trying to say I am right because I am.

That aside I find the entire EU debate counter intuitive.

The UK is already in the EU
If Scotland's leaves it wants to join the EU

The UK wants to leave the EU
If Scotland leaves it won't be in the EU
