Tyres...

Hi All,
Just bought four nexen 255 50 r20s from camskill, £346 delivered. Had previously bought pirelli scorpions but four of those are £750 or so. Given the reviews of the Nexens is this not a complete no brainer? (Particularly with the dealer fitting them for free with the mot...)
Kind regards

not every one can afford to fork out for new pirellis or contis so these nexens are a good alternative.....
i had a set and was happy with them...the only downside is the softer side wall , other than that they are ok.. ... - .- -.

They have just arrived and they are massive lumps of rubber!
Thanks for your comments chaps. The tyres have lasted quite well given the size of the car (rears are original at 82,000m!) and I changed the fronts at something like 60,000m.
Now I just need to work out how to get them in the car.... '96 Volkswagen Polo 1.4CL - SOLD

I spent a lot of time deciding and went for Michelins again on mine. Fronts needed replacing after 24000 miles as the edges had worn down to the chords but the rears are still going and have done 26000 miles and about half worn.

If they get good reviews then I wouldn't necessarily be put off with cheaper tyres as have used cheaper ones before as got good reviews and found the same with some Falkens on my M5 and put some Federal tyres on my Golf race car which were pretty good but not the most expensive or best.

cheers Alex

there is a separate debate over this, but I have slowly sourced a set of four same make tyres, secondhand All with 7mm tread remaining. -one was 'new' with the full 8mm all on ebay. you can often get them at £50 each, and mostly under £100 all mine are continentals, as they are popular in Germany, where the bulk of 'part worn' tyres come from, as they have different laws regarding tyres, ie no puncture repairs, at all. and dealers fitting them in new 'axle pairs'. hence they get sent to UK and sold to us. one of mine has had a professional repair. not a bad way of saving a few hundred quid. if you do your groundwork, and check them for manufacture date etc

£15 per tyre to fit and balance. conti's are £260 each new.

plenty of people disregard secondhand tyres as death traps, but on buying a secondhand car, are happy to drive around on the 'secondhand tyres' possibly with repairs hidden inside, till they are bald.
